Job summary

Akamai Technologies, Inc. is seeking a Senior II Data Scientist to develop creative ML models addressing application security threats.

You will analyze large datasets, implement detection rules, and drive improvements across security products within the Global Web Security group. You will work with SQL/Spark and Python in a distributed production environment, troubleshoot issues, and translate complex technical concepts into actionable insights for cross-functional teams.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of relevant experience required.
• Strong knowledge of probability, statistics and ML algorithms.
• Experience with large datasets and distributed production environments.

Our team is part of the Cloud Security organization. We are responsible for the technologies powering Akamai's security products and protecting some of the world's major internet brands. Working in partnership with other development teams, we design and create highly scalable solutions.

In this role, you'll play a key part in strengthening security products by analyzing data, addressing customer challenges, and driving product improvements. You'll collaborate across teams to implement solutions, enhance detection accuracy, and provide insights that shape strategy and performance.

As a Senior II Data Scientist, you will be responsible for:

• Analyzing large sets of data to differentiate legitimate and fraud traffic
• Developing and implementing detection rules and models to improve the accuracy and effectiveness of the security products.
• Improving processes to collect, manipulate, present, and analyze large datasets in a production-ready environment
• Troubleshooting production issues in a very distributed environment

Do what you love

To be successful in this role you will:

• Have 8 years of relevant experience and a Bachelor's degree or its equivalent
• Have experience working on large datasets using SQL/Spark and Python
• Have a good understanding of probability, statistics and machine learning algorithms/techniques
• Demonstrate excellent problem-solving skills and enjoy troubleshooting to identify and resolve complex issues
• Possess practical knowledge of application security products such as bot or fraud detection
• Have excellent communication and organizational skills and be able to articulate technical information in an easy-to-understand manner
• Demonstrate Familiarity with Internet protocols including TCP/IP, HTTP, DNS, TLS/SSL
