Job summary

Aviva Canada is seeking a hands-on Data Engineer to join the Claims Data and Insights team within Finance. You’ll design scalable data pipelines, work with Snowflake and Qlik, and own end-to-end delivery of data solutions that support analytics and modernization.

You’ll collaborate with claims operations, analytics, and actuarial teams to translate business needs into robust data platforms, with a hybrid work model and opportunities for career development.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 3 years in data engineering, analytics, or a related technical role.
  • Strong communication skills for explaining complex concepts to non-technical audiences.
  • Collaborative approach with the ability to work independently and own deliverables.
  • Strong sense of accountability and ownership with focus on delivering results.
  • Strong analytics and problem-solving skills with attention to detail and big picture.
  • Proficiency in Python and SQL with experience on complex data models.
  • Hands-on experience with cloud data warehouses (Snowflake preferred).
  • Experience building, maintaining, and debugging ETL/ELT data pipelines.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and optimize scalable data pipelines and analytical datasets using Snowflake and Qlik.
  • Own the end-to-end delivery of data solutions from requirements through implementation and support.
  • Define and apply best practices for data modeling, performance optimization, and cost-efficient Snowflake architecture.
  • Automate data ingestion and transformation workflows while integrating data from multiple sources.
  • Monitor, troubleshoot, and resolve data pipeline and reporting issues to ensure reliability and performance.
  • Collaborate with claims operations, analytics, and actuarial teams to translate business needs into data solutions.

The Opportunity

Aviva Canada is looking for a motivated and technically strong individual to join the Claims Data and Insights team within Finance. This role is ideal for someone who thrives as a hands‑on individual contributor through strong delivery, operational understanding, stakeholder management, and end‑to‑end ownership.

You will play a key role in evolving our Claims Data ecosystem by delivering high‑impact data solutions, supporting engineering best practices and the modernization of our data platform. You will work closely with the team supporting our Qlik environment and contribute significantly to our migration to Snowflake, helping to establish a scalable, well‑governed data foundation that enables advanced analytics and supports future growth across Claims and Finance.

What you’ll do:
  • Design, develop, and optimize scalable data pipelines and analytical datasets using Snowflake and Qlik.

The salary band for this position ranges from $90,000 to $110,000. Please note that individual salary is determined by factors such as job‑related knowledge, skills and experience, as well as internal equity.
