Job Title : Senior Corporate Accountant

Work Type : Full Time - Fully Remote

About the Company : We are partnered with an incredible multi-unit retail startup that is rapidly expanding across multiple cities throughout North America. We are looking for the first FT accounting hire to join their team in Toronto.

Working closely with their CFO & CEO, you’ll manage full-cycle bookkeeping, financial reporting, budgeting, and compliance for their operations in Canada and the US.

Responsibilities :

• Oversee full cycle bookkeeping and month-end close procedures
• Prepare account reconciliations for various balance sheet accounts including Cash, Prepaids, Inventory, Capital Assets, and other accounts
• Prepare journal entries related to significant estimates and operating accruals
• Prepare month-end financial reporting package
• Support Management with regular and ad-hoc financial analysis to support strategic decision-making
• Develop and maintain financial policies, procedures, and internal controls
• Take a continuous improvement approach to managing all accounting policies and procedures to improve reporting accuracy and efficiency

SYSTEMS + OPERATIONS

• Manage accounting processes and ensure accuracy and timely delivery of reports
• Oversee and optimize all data and record-keeping systems (including but not limited to accounting software, POS systems, and ERPs)
• Support annual budgeting process and drive cross-functional accountability
• Recommend data-supported changes to drive financial and operational efficiencies across the organisation

Qualifications :

• CPA designation or working towards completing, is required
• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
• 2-4+ years of accounting experience required
• Understanding of accounting principles and ability to analyze complex accounting processes
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Excel
• Excellent communication and leadership abilities
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Attention to detail and accuracy
• Capable of handling multiple projects in a fast-paced environment
