Reko Automation in Lakeshore, Canada, is seeking a senior controls engineer to lead the design, programming, and commissioning of control systems for factory automation across multiple industries. You will perform Electrical/pneumatic AutoCAD design, PLC/HMI programming, robot programming, and integration of third‑party systems into factory automation machines.

Qualifications

  • Minimum five years of experience executing custom automation solutions for factory automation.
  • At least 2 years design/programming from inception with increasing accountability.
  • Strong knowledge of manufacturing processes and factory automation.

Responsibilities

  • Lead design and programming of automation solutions for production lines.
  • Coordinate with mechanical, manufacturing, and sales teams during projects.
  • Develop AutoCAD designs and PLC/HMI code; robot programming and integration.
  • Support start-up, debugging, service and warranty activities; travel as needed.

Reporting to the Controls Engineering Supervisor, the successful candidate will be responsible for the varying stages of designs through programming and commissioning of control systems including Electrical/pneumatic AutoCAD design, programming of all types of PLCs and HMIs, programming and teaching of Robots, and integration of third-party systems as part of factory automation machines. We take pride in our employees – after all, they are our most valuable asset!### Skills**Here is what a typical day looks like!*** Completion of projects; according to established schedules, consistent with specific quality and legislation standards.* Consultation with mechanical engineering and manufacturing divisions during the controls engineering process to design and program automation solutions, which are built efficiently and perform their intended function safely and reliably.* Works to continuously improve the design/programming methods utilized within the controls engineering division, with the goals being enhanced safety, enhanced functionality, and reduced cost* Work in a team environment with Sales, Estimating, Project Management, Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing, and Management to assist in the successful execution of projects.* Attend internal kick off meetings (line up meetings) for new projects to receive an understanding of the scope of the project.* Liaison with vendors for technical information and specifications.* Participate in post project review meetings to compare what was quoted against the completed project.* Travelling will be required.### Qualifications**The value you bring to our company!*** A minimum of five (5) years’ experience executing custom automation solutions building factory automation; with a minimum specifically of 2 years in design/programming from inception + Specific to the level of knowledge and experience, the position has an accelerating degree of accountability and responsibility* Technical knowledge of manufacturing processes and factory automation* Strong computer, problem solving, organizational, and coaching skills, with the ability to meet deadlines* Excellent written and oral communication skills are required* Must be proficient with PLC, HMI, Robotics programming and AutoCAD* Siemens TIA Portal, Allen Bradley, and Omron programming software experience preferred* Fanuc, Kuka, ABB or Nachi Robot programming experience preferred* Cognex, Keyence vision programming experience preferred### Education Requirements* Post-secondary education specializing in electronics, electrical or controls technology with an emphasis on factory automation solutionsTypical hours are 7:00am-3:30pm with overtime and travel required as needed.We thank all applicants for their interest.
