Job summary

Johnson Electric is hiring an Automation Controls Specialist to program, debug, and commission PLCs, HMIs, robotics, and motion systems. You’ll troubleshoot robotic cells, support startup of automation equipment, and implement new solutions across diverse projects.

We seek a technical professional with 5+ years in automation, strong PLC knowledge (Omron NJ, Allen-Bradley), and robotics experience (Fanuc, Yaskawa, KUKA). Training in Ancaster precedes a move to Mississauga.

Qualifications

  • Technical diploma or degree in Engineering Technology or equivalent experience.
  • 5+ years of experience in an automation or controls environment.
  • Expert knowledge of PLC programming (Omron NJ, Allen Bradley).
  • Experience with robot programming (Fanuc, Yaskawa, KUKA).
  • Strong understanding of electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems.
  • Experience with industrial controls, automation systems, and troubleshooting.
  • Must be able to train the first two months at our Ancaster facility with the eventual move to Mississauga.

Responsibilities

  • Program, debug, and commission PLCs, HMIs, robotics, and motion systems
  • Troubleshoot and optimize robotic cells, including vision and force monitoring systems
  • Support design, build, and startup of automation equipment and assembly lines
  • Modify existing production equipment and develop new automation solutions
  • Configure industrial communication networks (Ethernet/IP, EtherCAT, etc.)
  • Develop or modify LabVIEW-based programs for automation systems
  • Collaborate with mechanical and electrical teams during design and implementation
  • Support equipment commissioning at customer sites and provide technical support
  • Prepare technical documentation including manuals, setup procedures, and schematics
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance equipment performance

What We’re Looking For:
  • Technical diploma or degree in Engineering Technology or equivalent experience
  • 5+ years of experience in an automation or controls environment

Bonus Points If You Have:
  • Knowledge of SQL databases and related systems
  • Experience with electrical design tools (e.g., EPLAN)
  • Experience in automotive manufacturing and IATF 16949 / ISO 9001 environments
