Job summary

Metropolitan District is seeking a Building Projects Lead in Halifax, Nova Scotia. The role leads a district team to guide delivery and coordination of major construction projects, aligning with capital priorities and standards.

Qualifications

• Post-secondary education with extensive related field experience, or an equivalent mix.
• Experience leading teams responsible for capital project delivery and facilities operations.
• Experience overseeing construction/renovation in occupied facilities with capital planning input.
• Knowledge of building codes, safety legislation, and project management basics.
• Experience managing capital and operating budgets and decision support.
• Experience supervising unionized staff in a collective agreement environment.
• Ability to interpret design drawings and technical specifications.
• Strong knowledge of building construction, systems, and asset lifecycle.

Responsibilities

• Link maintenance history and preventative maintenance insights to capital planning.
• Identify infrastructure issues to move from reactive to planned renewal.
• Support planning, sequencing, and readiness for planned projects.
• Advise on in-house vs external contracting based on complexity and timing.
• Ensure maintenance priorities inform project timing decisions.
• Provide leadership to a team of project management staff within a district/hub model.
• Create a positive, respectful, and accountable workplace culture focused on service excellence.
• Conduct performance management activities including goal setting, performance reviews, and feedback.
• Promote safe work practices and ensure adherence to safety standards.
• Support staff in managing complex building projects by partnering with internal and external resources.
