Job summary

City of Hamilton is seeking a Senior Plans Examiner to review and approve plans for Part 9 buildings under the Ontario Building Code. You will issue permits, assess drawings for compliance, and coordinate with inspectors and other agencies.

The role requires in‑depth knowledge of the Building Code, strong problem solving, and the ability to train staff. This is a temporary 18‑month assignment with opportunities for professional contribution.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of the Ontario Building Code and construction practices.
• Ability to review and interpret architectural/structural drawings and specifications.
• Strong problem solving and decision making skills.

Responsibilities

• Issue building permits for Part 9 buildings under the Ontario Building Code.
• Review and approve drawings for conformance with codes and by-laws.
• Liaise with the Inspection Team as technical expert for fire protection and life safety.
• Administer the Ontario Building Code and related laws.
• Train and mentor staff and respond to inquiries from stakeholders.
