Plans Examiner Mechanical and Plumbing (Code: J0526-0785)
The Plans Examiner Mechanical and Plumbing is responsible for reviewing and analyzing building services, on‑site sewage systems, mechanical and plumbing system designs, specifications, calculations and related reports to ensure compliance with the Building Code Act, the Building Code (as amended), applicable regulations, and relevant laws for the purposes of issuing building permits. This role includes evaluating the Energy Efficiency design requirements of the building’s mechanical systems and verifies that all submitted forms, energy modeling reports and calculations meet Building Code requirements. Provides technical expertise and code interpretations to the public, developers, builders, and design professionals, while liaising with departmental staff, internal teams, and external government or private sector agencies as required. Performs HVAC, plumbing, and site services design reviews and evaluation of calculations and specifications related to all type of building system’s designs. Calculates and verifies plumbing fees and responds promptly to inquiries. Prepare reports as needed, including those related to alternative solution proposals.
