Job summary

CGIC in Calgary is seeking a Senior BI Analytics Governance Specialist to lead enterprise analytics governance and drive trusted, compliant use of analytics, reporting, models, and AI-driven solutions.

You will partner with Risk, Compliance, Privacy and Information Security to implement frameworks and controls across platforms such as Microsoft Fabric, Databricks, Power BI, MicroStrategy, and Azure ML, while balancing innovation with risk.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a related field.
• 5+ years of progressive experience in analytics governance, data governance, business intelligence, risk management, compliance, or a related discipline.
• Experience developing, implementing, and maintaining governance frameworks, policies, standards, controls, and best practices.
• Strong knowledge of data, analytics, model, and AI governance principles, including risk assessment and regulatory compliance considerations.
• Demonstrated ability to collaborate with and influence cross-functional stakeholders while leading governance initiatives across multiple business areas.
• Strong analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to assess risk and recommend practical solutions.
• Experience working with modern enterprise analytics and data platforms, including Microsoft Fabric, Databricks, Power BI, and Power Apps.
• Experience governing analytics, reporting, AI, and machine learning platforms such as Power BI, MicroStrategy, Azure Machine Learning, Databricks, and Generative AI solutions.
• Knowledge of metadata management, analytics asset inventories, and governance controls within cloud-based analytics environments.
• Experience using Python for analytics, automation, governance, or data management initiatives is considered an asset.
• Experience with analytics, reporting, data management, or governance tools is an asset; industry certifications (e.g., CDMP, DCAM, DAMA) and insurance or financial services experience are considered assets.
• This position primarily works with majority non-francophone groups, and teams located outside of Québec, and requires proficiency in English. The essential non-French duties are not assignable to adjacent or other team members.

Responsibilities

• Lead and support the implementation and continuous improvement of analytics governance frameworks, policies, standards, and procedures.
• Establish governance processes and controls that promote the responsible use of reporting, analytics, models, artificial intelligence, and emerging technologies within enterprise data and analytics ecosystems.
• Partner with business stakeholders, analytics teams, Risk, Compliance, Privacy, and Information Security to ensure governance requirements are effectively understood and adopted.
• Support the development and maintenance of analytics asset inventories, metadata management practices, and governance reporting across platforms including Microsoft Fabric, Databricks, Power BI, MicroStrategy, Azure Machine Learning, and Generative AI solutions.
