Job summary

First West Credit Union in Langley, BC, seeks a Regulatory Compliance Advisor to deliver expert guidance on banking laws, help interpret changes, and support compliance governance across the organization.

You will partner with leadership to manage regulatory requirements, prepare reports, and engage with regulators, ensuring alignment with the Bank Act, FCAC, OSFI, and CRA guidelines.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a related discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Three or more years of experience in regulatory compliance, legal, or a related field.
• Previous experience working in a compliance function at a bank or federal credit union is preferred.
• A compliance, governance, or risk management designation is an asset.
• Strong knowledge of the regulatory environment governing federally regulated financial institutions, including Bank Act, OSFI, FCAC, OPC, and CRA.
• Ability to build strong relationships, influence and collaborate with stakeholders.
• Ability to analyze, interpret, and communicate complex regulatory requirements.
• Sound judgment with strategic and practical recommendations for regulatory obligations and operations.
• High ethical standards, integrity, and discretion.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Overnight travel is required 7-12 times per year.

Responsibilities

• Provide expert regulatory advice and guidance on banking laws and regulatory expectations.
• Conduct regulatory research and change management activities; disseminate changes to the business.
• Prepare regulatory self-assessments and document results in Resolver.
• Provide oversight and challenge to the First Line of Defence on controls and risk.
• Support education and training on regulatory obligations across the organization.
• Engage with regulators during examinations, information requests, reporting, and RCIs.
