Job summary

IBM Software in Calgary is seeking a senior backend software engineer to help design and deliver cloud-native systems at scale. You will own complex services, drive end-to-end delivery, and shape architecture for real-time data platforms.

You will collaborate across teams, raise the bar on reliability and observability, and mentor other engineers while using Python, Java, Go, and cloud technologies.

Qualifications

• 7+ years experience designing, building, and supporting backend systems in production.
• Proficiency in Python, Go, Java, or C/C++.
• Experience running services in a public cloud with containers and orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes).
• Strong leadership, communication, and collaboration skills.
• BS, MS, or PhD in computer science or related field, or equivalent work experience.

Responsibilities

• Own and lead the design and implementation of complex backend services in a cloud-native, microservices-based environment.
• Define APIs, integration points, and data models to keep the platform coherent and evolvable.
• Drive projects end to end from requirements through rollout and production.
• Improve reliability by defining SLOs/SLAs and strengthening observability.
• Mentor engineers through code reviews and design reviews.
