Job summary

IBM Software is seeking backend engineers to design, build, and operate secure, scalable services powering our data streaming platform. You’ll own features end-to-end and collaborate across product, design, and operations to ship reliable backend systems in a cloud-native environment.

Required experience includes 3+ years in production backend design, proficiency in Java/Go/Python, and familiarity with Docker, Kubernetes, and major cloud providers. A Master’s degree is preferred.

Qualifications

• 3+ years designing, building, and supporting backend systems in production.
• Proficiency in Java, Go, or Python and ability to learn new languages.
• Experience with microservices, data pipelines, event-driven architectures, or high-throughput APIs.
• Experience deploying services to AWS, GCP, or Azure with containers (Docker) and orchestration (Kubernetes).
• Focus on quality, observability (metrics, logging, tracing), and incident response.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and operate backend services that are secure, reliable, and scalable in a cloud-native environment.
• Own features end-to-end: requirements, design, implementation, testing, rollout, and improvements.
• Work with microservices and data pipelines to ensure performance and reliability.
• Contribute to service reliability, monitoring, alerting, and on-call participation.
• Collaborate with partner teams on architecture, data modeling, and integration points.
• Write clean, well-tested code and participate in code reviews to raise the bar.
