Job summary

ALTEN CANADA, with offices in Montreal and Toronto, seeks an experienced automation/machine designer to deliver complex equipment solutions for diverse industries. You will work on end-to-end design, from concept to detailed drawings and BOMs, ensuring safety and regulatory compliance.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience in automation equipment/machine design.
• Experience designing with pneumatic cylinders, servo motors, gearboxes, part-presence sensors, and safety systems.
• Proficiency in 3D CAD design using SolidWorks and/or CATIA.
• GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing) knowledge.

Responsibilities

• Perform engineering calculations related to strength of materials, speed, horsepower, temperature, pressure, and force to support machine and tool design.
• Analyze drawings and specs to determine dimensions, material properties, hardness, and other technical requirements for equipment and products.
• Evaluate feasibility of using machines to perform sequential manufacturing operations efficiently.
• Create detailed working drawings, assembly drawings, and BOMs for equipment and sub-assemblies using AutoCAD and SolidWorks.
• Review and analyze designs to ensure compliance with standards and regulations (OSHA, CE, customer requirements).
• Verify drawing accuracy, material selection, machining methods, surface finishes, and manufacturability.
