Job description

Cambridge, ON | Manufacturing Engineering
Advanced Manufacturing | Industrial Automation | Robotics

Ellos HR Solutions is recruiting an experienced Mechanical Designer for a well established manufacturing organization in Cambridge, Ontario.

This is not a traditional Mechanical Designer position focused solely on drawings and CAD models.

Our client is investing in advanced automation, robotic systems and lights-out manufacturing, with the long term objective of developing production equipment capable of operating with minimal human intervention.

We are looking for someone who genuinely enjoys designing custom machinery, solving complex mechanical challenges and bringing automation concepts to life.

  • Design and develop custom automated machinery, robotic cells and specialized manufacturing equipment
  • Create detailed 3D mechanical models, assemblies and production drawings using SolidWorks, Inventor, Creo or similar CAD platforms
  • Develop robotic machine-tending solutions for CNC equipment, fabrication machinery and automated assembly processes
  • Design end-of-arm tooling (EOAT), precision fixtures, conveyors, machine guarding and mechanical handling systems
  • Engineer mechanical interfaces for robotic loading, unloading and automated material movement
  • Work with industrial robotic technologies such as FANUC, ABB, KUKA and Universal Robots
  • Apply GD&T, tolerance analysis, motion studies and mechanical design principles
  • Collaborate with Controls, Electrical, Machining and Production teams to integrate mechanical systems with automation technologies
  • Participate in equipment development, assembly, commissioning, troubleshooting and continuous improvement
  • Help develop reliable, efficient manufacturing systems capable of supporting lights-out production
  • Diploma or Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, Mechatronics or a related discipline
  • Approximately 3 to 7 years of experience designing custom automated equipment, special purpose machinery or robotic manufacturing systems
  • Strong proficiency in 3D CAD design and mechanical drafting
  • Experience with SolidWorks, Inventor, Creo or comparable mechanical design software
  • Working knowledge of PDM systems, GD&T, DFM/DFA and manufacturing processes
  • Experience designing mechanical systems involving pneumatics, linear motion, servo mechanisms and industrial automation components
  • Understanding of robotic integration, machine safety and equipment guarding
  • Ability to work closely with Engineering and Production teams throughout the complete equipment development process
  • Experience designing automated machinery and robotic systems is particularly important for this opportunity.

We are not simply looking for someone who can produce drawings. We want someone who understands how mechanical systems function, how equipment is built and how automation can improve manufacturing performance.

  • Comprehensive health, dental, life insurance and critical illness coverage
  • RRSP / DPSP program with company matching
  • Annual bonus based on company division profitability
  • Vacation and flexible paid holidays
  • Tuition reimbursement and company paid training
  • Wellness programs and Employee Assistance Program

Work alongside an experienced Engineering and Manufacturing team with exceptional employee retention

Opportunities to develop your expertise in robotics, mechatronics, automated machinery and advanced manufacturing technologies

This is an opportunity to become directly involved in the future of manufacturing automation.

You will help develop equipment that reduces manual intervention, improves production reliability and supports the transition toward increasingly automated manufacturing operations.
