Job summary

RBC is seeking an Application Support Engineer to own the reliability of mission-critical trading platforms and drive operational excellence in a collaborative, growth-focused environment.

You will mentor engineers, influence system design, and optimize scheduling while supporting deployments and on-call duties in a dynamic capital markets setting. This role emphasizes cross-functional leadership and scalable, resilient infrastructure.

Qualifications

• 5–10 years of production support experience in financial services, trading, or high-availability environments.
• Strong SQL skills for querying, analyzing data, and troubleshooting application issues.
• Hands-on experience supporting applications running on Linux or Windows OS in containerized environments (Kubernetes).
• Solid understanding of VMs, cloud platforms, and infrastructure fundamentals.
• Working knowledge of microservices architectures and RESTful APIs.
• Experience with enterprise monitoring and observability tools: Dynatrace Managed, Catchpoint, Kibana, Splunk, Grafana, ITRS, Splunk.
• Deep familiarity with incident and change management frameworks (ITIL or similar).
• Comfortable participating in rotating 7×24 on-call support (with fair scheduling and team backup).

Responsibilities

• Own the reliability of production systems across web servers, app servers, middleware, and trading platform infrastructure.
• Lead incident response and change management, coordinating cross-functional teams and conducting root cause analysis.
• Drive operational excellence by championing SRE practices, automating repetitive workflows, and aligning initiatives with business priorities.
• Provide technical leadership by collaborating with development, infrastructure, and L3 support teams, mentoring junior engineers.
• Manage and optimize application job scheduling and support smooth deployments during project implementations.
• Influence system architecture with frontline insights on scalability, reliability, and user experience.
• Leverage AI tools to automate day-to-day problems and improve efficiency.
