Job summary

Extendicare is seeking a Part-time Recreation Aide to support meaningful activities for residents in a Canadian long-term care setting. You will help plan and execute programs in collaboration with the Recreation Manager and Executive Director, maintain records, and communicate with residents, families and staff.

The role requires a college diploma in recreation or related field, experience with seniors, and a valid driver’s license.

Qualifications

• College diploma in Recreation, Leisure Studies, Gerontology or equivalent is required.
• Experience working with seniors is preferred.
• Proficiency with MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Valid provincial driver's license to transport residents by van.
• Vulnerable Sector Check within six months, or willingness to obtain one.
• Smart Serve and Food Handlers Certificates.

Responsibilities

• Assist in planning, organization and implementation of meaningful programs for residents.
• Maintain department records including assessments and evaluations.
• Communicate with residents, families, volunteers and staff about events.
• Attend in-service education to stay informed on elder care trends.
• Participate in team meetings to plan resident activities.
• Facilitate residents to scheduled outings.
• Assess resident activity levels and plan daily activities.
• Assist with meal services as required.
• Work in a position of trust with vulnerable adults.
• Uphold Extendicare's Code of Conduct and values.
• Complete other duties as assigned.
