Job summary

Extendicare is seeking a compassionate Recreation Aide to assist in planning, organizing and delivering engaging activities for residents. This part-time role supports the Recreation Manager and the care team in creating meaningful daily programs across our Ottawa long-term care home.

You will participate in outings, assist with assessments and meal services, and help maintain accurate records while upholding our values of ethics and integrity.

Qualifications

• College diploma in Recreation, Leisure Studies, Gerontology or equivalent.
• Previous experience working with seniors.
• Proficient in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Energetic and compassionate person who enjoys working with the elderly.
• Valid Ontario driver\'s license to transport residents by van (Class 4 or F).
• Provide Vulnerable Sector Check (Criminal Background Check) or willingness to obtain one.
• Food Handlers Certification & Smart Serve Certification.

Responsibilities

• Assist in planning, organizing and implementing meaningful programs for residents, in collaboration with the Recreation Manager & Executive Director
• Assists with the maintenance of appropriate department records including assessments, evaluations of planned programs detailing individual participation, charting
• Maintains effective communication and good human relations with residents, families, volunteers and staff of other departments, keeping them informed of current and upcoming events
• Attends in-service education to stay informed of current trends in the total care of the elderly
• Participates in team meetings to plan programs with residents\' interest in mind
• Facilitating residents to scheduled and pre-arranged outings
• Assisting with assessment of individual resident activity levels
• Preparing, carrying out and evaluating daily activities
• Assisting with meal services as required
• Work in a position of trust with vulnerable adults (residents)
• Uphold and promote the organization\'s values and philosophy relating particularly to ethics, morality, and integrity as set out in Extendicare\'s Code of Conduct
• Complete other duties as assigned
