Job summary

Extendicare is seeking a part-time Recreation Assistant to plan and implement meaningful programs for residents in collaboration with the Recreation Manager. You will help maintain records, communicate with residents, families, and staff, and support outings and daily activities.

The role requires a college diploma in Recreation, Leisure Studies, Gerontology or equivalent, plus experience with seniors and proficiency in Microsoft Office.

Qualifications

• College diploma in Recreation, Leisure Studies, Gerontology or equivalent is required;
• Previous experience working with seniors;
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook);
• Excellent oral and written communication skills;
• An energetic, compassionate person who enjoys working with the elderly;
• Must provide a complete and current (within six months) Vulnerable Sector Check (including a Criminal Background Check) or be willing to obtain one.

Responsibilities

• Assist in planning and implementing meaningful programs for residents with Recreation Manager.
• Maintain department records, assessments, and evaluations.
• Communicate with residents, families, volunteers and staff about events.
• Attend in-service education to stay updated on elderly care trends.
• Participate in team meetings to plan resident-centered activities.
• Facilitate residents’ outings and assess activity levels.
• Prepare, carry out, and evaluate daily activities.
• Assist with meal services as required.
• Uphold the organization’s values and ethics per Code of Conduct.
• Complete other duties as assigned.
