We are looking for a Senior Accountant, Real Estate to join Connor, Clark & Lunn Financial Group’s (“CCLFG”) Toronto-based real estate accounting team, working exclusively for our affiliate, Crestpoint Real Estate Investments Ltd. (“Crestpoint”). The Senior Accountant, Real Estate is responsible for interacting with Crestpoint’s third-party property managers and the oversight of the day-to-day accounting functions they perform for Crestpoint’s diversified and growing portfolio of properties. This is a comprehensive position and requires the individual to have a solid understanding of all aspects of accounting.

Part of the Connor, Clark & Lunn Financial Group, Crestpoint is a commercial real estate investment manager dedicated to providing institutional and high net worth investors with direct access to commercial real estate assets. Through the execution of its disciplined investment approach and active management of its properties, Crestpoint strives to deliver stable income and attractive long-term returns through a diversified portfolio of office, retail, industrial and multi-family residential properties.

As the portfolio of new investments continues to grow, we are looking for someone who is ready to work closely with Crestpoint’s third party property managers, investment and asset management teams to ensure they are receiving the information required to manage the properties effectively and that all internal and external reporting requirements are satisfied. You will be part of a high performing team and supported by the CFO, Real Estate and Controller, Real Estate Funds.

What You Will Do

  • In this role, the successful candidate will oversee and coordinate the accounting function for Crestpoint’s diversified portfolio of properties (including income producing and development properties) and open-ended real estate fund, including:
  • Liaising with third-party property managers and accountants to ensure the integrity, accuracy and completeness of monthly accounting information and property management reports and the timely delivery of the previously mentioned
  • Preparation of month end bank reconciliations, journal entries, supporting working papers and quarterly financial statements for presentation to external investors
  • Assisting with the preparation and review of client and portfolio reporting and schedules, including cash flow projections, monthly variance analysis reports, and annual budgets
  • Assisting with the preparation of property valuations and working with other members of the CCLFG team to calculate investment returns, as well as regular external client and internal property and fund reporting requirements
  • Preparation of accounting entries for acquisitions and dispositions of investment properties
  • Assisting with the preparation of sales tax filings and annual income tax returns and filings
  • Support in implementation of accounting changes and other process improvements
  • Preparing monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements and notes in accordance with ASPE, IFRS or a disclosed basis of accounting
  • Assisting with the annual audit process
  • Special projects and other duties, as assigned

  • Minimum three to five years of accounting experience in financial management, preferably in the real estate industry and/or fund management, including preparation of financial statements and notes
  • Undergraduate degree preferably in accounting or finance
  • Professional Accounting Designation (CPA-CA, CGA, CMA) or actively enrolled in the CPA program (midway through or nearing completion) is an asset
  • Excellent financial and analytical skills
  • Strong Excel skills; familiarity with Yardi real estate accounting/reporting software is an asset
  • Exceptional attention to detail
  • Proven ability to think logically and effectively problem solve
  • Demonstrated ability to work efficiently under pressure; dealing with changes and interruptions while maintaining strict deadlines
  • Proven self-starter with the ability to work independently as well as part of a team
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
