District Mechanical, based in Edmonton, is seeking a Senior Accountant to join a growing, employee-owned company. You will transition from public practice to an industry role, taking on responsibilities that build towards leadership while partnering with senior leaders to drive strategic financial decisions.

You are a CPA with 2–5 years of public accounting experience, eager to develop broader business acumen, and capable of owning key accounting processes and reporting in a hands-on environment.

Qualifications

• CPA designation with approximately 2–5 years of public accounting experience.
• Strong foundation in accounting principles, financial reporting, and financial analysis.
• Genuine interest in transitioning from public practice into an industry role.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and confidence working with accounting and financial systems.
• Ability to communicate financial information clearly and work effectively with colleagues at all levels.
• Proactive, hands-on approach with initiative to identify opportunities and take ownership.
• Desire to learn the business, contribute beyond accounting, and grow into leadership.

Responsibilities

• Support financial reporting and analysis to ensure accurate and timely information.
• Develop understanding of the company's operations and key business drivers.
• Help prepare management reports for CFO and senior leadership.
• Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes and internal controls.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams on financial decision-making.
