Position: Senior Accountant
Reporting to: Financial Controller
Job Summary:
We are a fast-growing construction company based in Toronto, Ontario, specializing in civil, commercial, and residential projects. We are seeking an experienced Senior Accountant to oversee financial operations with a focus on project-based accounting and cost control.
- Manage full-cycle accounting for construction projects, including budgeting, forecasting, job costing, and variance analysis.
- Prepare and analyze financial statements, reports, and reconciliations monthly, quarterly, and annually.
- Monitor project budgets and collaborate with project managers to ensure costs stay within approved limits.
- Perform account reconciliations such as bank, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general ledger.
- Oversee Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable cycles, managing workflows and external communications.
- Support the weekly payroll cycle to ensure accuracy.
- Assist in compliance with CRA and payroll regulations.
- Manage year-end closing, audits, and external reporting.
- Ensure timely and accurate submission of HST, WSIB, and other regulatory filings.
- Develop and enhance internal controls and accounting procedures.
- Provide financial analysis and strategic support to senior leadership.
- Collaborate with other teams to meet company needs.
- Manage expenses related to company credit and fuel cards.
- Conduct expense analysis as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field. CPA designation (or in progress) is mandatory, with proof of status/stages required.
- Experience: Minimum 3 years in an accounting role, preferably in corporate or construction sectors.
- Knowledge of Canadian tax laws and regulations.
- Strong understanding of job costing, project accounting, and WIP reporting.
- Proficient in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks).
- Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel and financial tools.
- Excellent organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively with a high level of integrity.
Working Conditions:
- Location: 1-2 days in-office, remaining remote.
- Hours: Full-time (40-44 hours/week), with occasional overtime during month-end or year-end.
- Salary: CAD $85,000 to $95,000 annually.
