About the role

As a Senior Bookkeeper, you’ll play a key role in helping innovative startups gain financial clarity so they can continue to scale and thrive.

Your responsibilities will include managing a portfolio of business clients, overseeing bookkeeping processes, assisting with financial reporting at month- and year-end, handling sales tax filings, and supporting internal reporting tasks.

You’ll build and maintain strong relationships with clients, communicating with them via email, Slack, and virtual meetings.

What Your Day to Day Will Look Like

  • Maintain accurate financial records for assigned clients, including reconciliations, accounts payable/receivable processing, payroll recording, and general ledger entries.
  • Identify and resolve inconsistencies while ensuring documentation is complete.
  • Maintain and reconcile monthly schedules for prepaid expenses, deferred accounts, and fixed assets.
  • Ensure client books are accurate and proactively address any discrepancies.
  • Assist with month-end and year-end financial reporting and preparation of workpapers.
  • Support the bookkeeping team to ensure all tasks remain on schedule.
  • Maintain accountability for the quality and timeliness of tasks related to your clients.
  • Contribute to additional bookkeeping, tax, and sales tax-related tasks as needed.
  • Utilize cloud-based accounting software and remote tools for seamless collaboration.
  • Communicate regularly with team members and clients via virtual platforms.

What You Need to Succeed

  • Post-secondary education in accounting, finance, or a related field (e.g. diploma or degree).
  • 3+ years of full-cycle bookkeeping experience, preferably in a firm or environment where you're managing multiple client files.
  • At least 3 years of experience successfully working in a remote environment.
  • Hands-on payroll experience, including processing pay runs and remittances.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities.
  • Effective communication skills and the ability to build client relationships.
  • Analytical and critical thinking abilities to solve problems efficiently.
  • You thrive working remotely and leveraging technology to stay connected and efficient.
  • Proficiency with Xero and strong Excel skills.
  • A proactive mindset and ability to transform disorganized books into well-structured financial records.
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to work independently while meeting multiple deadlines.
  • A commitment to exceptional customer service, with previous client-facing experience.
