Midvalley Rebar is a division of Salit Steel Group of Companies. From the smallest job to high-rises and large scale projects, contractors from around British Columbia look to us to provide timely supply and installation of quality reinforcing steel products. Midvalley operates from our state of the art shop that includes our:

• Reinforcing steel shipping and storage yard
• Shearing and fabricating facilities
• Estimating, detailing, sales and administrative office

We are actively looking for a Senior Accountant to join our team based in Delta, BC.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Senior Accountant is responsible for the collection, analysis, and reporting of financial activities up to and including the preparation of the financial statements. Reporting to the Controller, the successful candidate will have the right mix of demonstrated understanding in financial reporting. The candidate is expected to have the ability to quickly learn and adapt to the fast-paced work environment. Strong attention to detail and accuracy are essential, as is the ability to multitask and meet tight deadlines.

POSITION FUNCTIONS

• Responsible for cash flow management, including monthly bank reconciliations

• Perform monthly general ledger account reconciliations

• Perform intercompany reconciliations

• Prepare fully supported month-end journal entries

• Prepare month-end financial statements, working papers and supporting schedules

• Perform monthly variance analysis of financial statements

• Assist with the preparation of rolling forecasts and budgets

• Oversee quarterly inventory counts

• Prepare working papers and schedules for year-end audits and liaising with external auditors

• Responsible for all required Government reporting and remittances (GST/PST/Corp Tax/EHT/WCB/Stats Canada)

• Assist with compliance audits as required

• Ensure adherence to sound internal controls

• Oversight of customer credit checks, account approvals, and collections

• Assist with process improvements and information system upgrades and implementations

• Provide back up, training and support to accounting personnel as required

• Any additional duties as required

PRIOR WORK & EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

• Completion of the third- or fourth-year CPA program of studies, the equivalent with the associated legacy programs of study (CA, CGA, CMA)

• Strong knowledge of accounting concepts and principles (Canadian GAAP and ASPE)

• 5+ years of experience in the construction or the manufacturing industry

• Intermediate or advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office 365

• Experience with computer systems and software

• Effective time management and organization skills

• Strong command of English, both verbal and written

• Positive results-oriented attitude

• Ability to work independently and as part of the team

• Healthy desire to learn and excel by taking initiative
