Position: Accounting Assistant
Reporting to the Financial Controller, we are seeking a detail-oriented and organized Accounting Assistant to join our team. The ideal candidate will play a vital role in supporting our accounting department by managing bank reconciliations, A/P and A/R tasks, ensuring accuracy, and maintaining compliance with company policies.
Key Responsibilities:
- Accounts Payable
- Full cycle responsibility for receiving, reviewing, recording and processing payment of vendor invoices and expense reports
- Maintain vendor files and all associated documents, including contracts and terms of reference
- Cash Management
- Monitoring cash levels and preparing monthly liquidity reports for senior management
- Preparation of monthly bank reconciliations
- Reconciliation and payment of company credit cards.
- Accounts Receivable
- Tracking A/R and management of collections cycle
- Preparation and analysis of monthly revenue and A/R aging reports
- Assistance with management of client relationships, responding to client inquiries.
- Bank Reconciliation
- Ensuring timely and accurate coding of bank transactions
- Performing monthly reconciliation of bank accounts to the accounting system.
- Administration
- Assist in payroll preparation, including employee benefits, RRSP, EI and CPP calculations.
- Adding new employees to the payroll system with accurate identity and tax information.
- File Goods and Services Tax (GST) returns accurately and on time
- Supporting month end/year end functions
- Preparing working papers for journal entries
- Posting adjusting entries and accruals
- Preparation of ad hoc reports as requested by management.
Qualifications:
- Education: Accounting/Finance diploma, Bachelor Degree or equivalent work experience.
- Experience: 1 year minimum relevant experience.
- Skills
- Experience with accounting software (Xero or similar)
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word) and Google Cloud
- Knowledge of generally accepted accounting standards
Nice to have:
- Experience in SaaS/technology sector
- University degree with specialization in accounting or similar
- Interest in pursuing a CPA certification, or in early stages of earning a CPA.
