Job summary

Armour Transportation Systems in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, is seeking a Senior Accountant to support accurate and timely financial reporting, month-end close, and operating analyses within a fast-paced environment.

Reporting to the Operations Controller, the Senior Accountant will manage journal entries, reconciliations, and financial statements, partnering with operational teams to drive improvements and ensure compliance.

Qualifications

• Degree or diploma in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
• CPA designation, or in progress.
• Minimum three years of progressive finance/accounting experience, preferably in an operations environment.
• Strong experience with account reconciliations, financial analysis, GL maintenance and month-end close.
• Excellent written and verbal communication and ability to work with stakeholders.
• Proactive, self-motivated with collaborative team mindset.

Responsibilities

• Support month-end accounting activities including journal entries and reconciliations.
• Prepare documentation for accounting entries and financial reporting.
• Perform overhead analysis and bank transaction clearing.
• Maintain general ledger accounts and sub-ledgers, investigating discrepancies.
• Assist with monthly financial statements and reporting packages.
• Provide financial information to operational teams for decision-making.
• Develop ad hoc financial reports and respond to inquiries from stakeholders.
• Participate in internal audits and reporting initiatives.

Reporting to the Operations Controller, the Senior Accountant will play an important role in supporting accurate and timely financial reporting, month-end accounting, account reconciliations, and operational analysis. Responsibilities will include:

• Support month-end accounting activities, including journal entries, prepaid accounts, intercompany chargebacks, and recurring entries.
• Prepare supporting documentation for accounting entries and financial reporting for review and approval.
• Complete overhead analysis, bank transaction clearing, and related accounting entries.
• Reconcile, analyze, and maintain general ledger accounts and sub-ledgers, investigating and resolving discrepancies as required.
• Assist with the preparation and review of monthly financial statements, reporting packages, schedules, and supporting data.
• Prepare account analysis and reconciliations to support accurate and timely financial results.
• Provide financial information and analysis to operational teams to support business needs and decision-making.
• Prepare and submit account reconciliations with clear supporting documentation to validate balances.
• Support compliance audits, financial reviews, and monthly, quarterly, and annual reporting requirements.
• Contribute to accounting projects, process improvements, and reporting initiatives.
• Respond to inquiries from internal stakeholders in a timely and professional manner.
• Develop ad hoc financial reports and analysis as required.
• Other related duties as required.

The ideal candidate will possess:

• A degree or diploma in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
• A minimum of three years of progressive finance or accounting experience, preferably within an operational accounting environment.
• CPA designation, or equivalent qualification, completed or in progress.
• Strong experience with account reconciliations, financial analysis, general ledger maintenance, and month-end accounting.
• Strong analytical skills and attention to detail, with the ability to identify discrepancies and resolve accounting issues.
• Excellent organizational and prioritization skills, with the ability to manage competing deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
• A proactive and self-motivated approach, with the ability to take ownership of processes and identify opportunities for improvement.
