Job summary

Ocean Capital Holdings Limited in Canada is seeking a Senior Accountant to join the finance team in Saint John, NB or Halifax, NS. The role focuses on consolidations, financial reporting, and process improvements across multiple companies.

Reporting to the Senior Manager, Accounting, you will contribute to monthly and annual reporting, budgets, and audit support, while ensuring accuracy and compliance with US GAAP where applicable.

Qualifications

• CPA designation and degree in business administration are required.
• 5-7 years of progressive accounting experience post CPA completion.
• Experience with consolidated financial statements and US GAAP is an asset.
• Strong communication and analytic skills.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools and ERP systems.

Responsibilities

• Prepare monthly consolidated and non-consolidated financial statements and schedules, including journal entries, reconciliations, and variance analysis for multiple companies and present to Senior Leadership
• Coordinate with operational finance teams to prepare consolidated financial reports and analysis
• Prepare annual budgets and schedules including management reporting
• Assist in creation of annual management and shareholder reporting
• Manage day-to-day transactional processing: billing, cash forecasting
• Be a key resource to support and engage with audit processes – internal and external
• Assist with the development and implementation of formalized accounting and reporting policies and standards
• Assist in identifying and implementing process improvement initiatives within our team and cross functional teams.

Reporting to the Senior Manager, Accounting, this position provides a broad range of accounting and financial support to Ocean Capital Holdings Limited and related companies. As an integral member of the accounting team, the Senior Accountant will play a key role in financial reporting, consolidated reporting, daily accounting activities, cash management, and process improvement initiatives across a diverse group of businesses.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess:

• Chartered Professional Accounting (CPA) designation;
• 5-7 years of progressive accounting experience post CPA completion;
• Degree in Business Administration;
• Experience with consolidated financial statements and US GAAP would be considered strong assets;
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools (Excel, Word, PowerPoint);
• Experience with mid-market to top tier ERP system;
• Experience in applying foreign currency translation methods and managing exchange rate impacts in financial reporting and consolidations;
• Strong presentation skills, capable of delivering complex financial information in an engaging and accessible manner;
• Proven experience collaborating with and presenting to senior leadership;
• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal;
• Strong sense of ownership and accountability;
• Industry experience considered an asset;
• Managerial or supervisory experience considered an asset;
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities;
• Reliable self-starter with the ability to work independently and manage priorities;
• Meticulous attention to detail and accuracy;
