The Senior Accountant is responsible for the day to day maintenance of general ledger accounts and preparation of the monthly, quarterly and annual reports including financial statements, covenant calculations and tax filing. This role is also responsible for the training and mentoring of the Accountants and Accounts Payable Clerk. The Senior Accountant is directly involved in the implementation of departmental initiatives.

Essential Functions

• Act as quality control by reviewing work (accounting documents/output) prepared by other members of the Accounting team.
• Prepare / review interim and year-end financial statements with supporting notes, tax provisions and financial covenant calculations.
• Prepare / review tax filing and Tax Authority Queries (HST, QST, Corporate Income tax, Trust Income Tax, T5013 etc.)
• Prepare / review audit schedules for year-end audit, including answering questions from auditors.
• Identify, recommend and assist in the implementation of departmental improvements/enhancements (either through technology, training, workflow, etc.).
• Participate in team meetings to promote team building, review new policies and procedures and assist in problem identification and resolution.

Professional Designation

Work Experience

• 3 - 5 years of relevant work experience in accounting field, preferably in the mutual fund, private equity or family office industry.
• Previous experience working with Great Plains Dynamics desired.
• Tax experience in completing returns and working on Tax Authority Queries would be a highly desirable asset.For candidates who have more experience in tax would be considered for a Tax Specialist role (where the time allocation between the functions would be different).
