Twenty Eighty is seeking a full-time, experienced Senior Accountant who enjoys working with entrepreneurs, leveraging leading technology, and collaborating with an exceptional team. The ideal candidate aspires to become a Financial Controller.

Note: While this position is remote, only Canadian-based candidates will be considered at this time.

The Role

As a Senior Accountant working towards a Controller position, you will play a key role in our clients' journeys. Your responsibilities include coordinating with bookkeeping and advisory teams, managing month-end and year-end closings, and focusing on analytics, communication, and delivering an exceptional client experience. You will proactively engage with clients to identify anomalies and suggest improvements to their processes and profitability.

Responsibilities

• Proficient with technology and online accounting solutions such as Xero, QuickBooks Online, Hubdoc, Dext, Plooto, Slack, Asana, Google Workspace, etc.
• Handle multiple clients and internal teams simultaneously in a deadline-driven environment
• Perform monthly financial close and review processes, ensuring timely communication with clients and teams
• Develop and implement best practice processes for clients, with their understanding and input
• Build and monitor annual budgets, analyzing variances monthly
• Create and update weekly/monthly cash flow forecasts, communicating current and projected cash positions
• Develop strategic forecasts, tracking operational changes affecting them
• Support fractional CFOs with finance and administrative tasks within our strategic framework
• Review client spending, identifying cost-saving opportunities without disrupting operations
• Respond to technical inquiries from bookkeeping teams
• Prepare and submit government filings such as GST/PST/HST returns, T2, T3, T5, etc.

Qualifications

• Excellent communication skills
• Strong time management, multitasking, and prioritization abilities
• Attention to detail and problem-solving skills
• Ability to work independently and seek guidance when needed
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
• Minimum of 2+ years experience in a senior accounting role within a private company
• Knowledge of basic small business tax considerations
• Love for technology and quick learner of new software
• Independent, motivated, and proactive
• Creative mindset with a willingness to suggest improvements

Bonus Qualifications

• CPA, CFA, or similar designation, or working towards one
• Experience with cloud-based accounting practices
• Payroll management experience
• Background with startups, private enterprises, or family practices
• Experience building and implementing cloud accounting solutions
• Knowledge of business systems like E-myth, EOS, Scaling Up
• Experience with client compilation statements
