Job summary

University of New Brunswick is seeking an Entry Level Security Patrol for a full-time 6-month term in Fredericton, NB. Shift work with 40 hours per week, on-campus security duties, and training will be provided. Valid first aid/cpr/WHMIS certificates, background check, and driver's license required.

Reporting to the Patrol Supervisor, you will monitor alarms and cameras, control access to labs, and assist with incident reporting and crowd control as needed.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• Previous security experience preferred.
• Completion of a security training course from a community college is an asset.
• Must be willing to engage with the diverse campus community.

Responsibilities

• Report to the Patrol Supervisor and ensure security of university property and safety of staff, faculty, students, and visitors.
• Inspect buildings for safety, fire hazards, and other risks.
• Manage access to labs, offices and classrooms after hours.
• Respond to emergencies and dispatch duties using security systems.
• Monitor security cameras and alarms; maintain key control.
• Prepare duty and occurrence reports at shift end.
• Assist with traffic control and crowd management when required.
• Support Student Campus Patrol as needed.

Additional Working Conditions

YOUR FOCUS

Reporting to the Patrol Supervisor, the Security Patrol ensures the security of university property and the safety and security of staff, faculty, students, and visitors while on campus.

• Conduct inspections of university buildings for safety and fire hazards, mechanical problems, or other occurrences which result in loss or damage to property.
• Maintain security of buildings and grounds.
• Perform dispatch duties, (monitor the computerized alarm system and security cameras, answer emergency phone, maintain key control, and perform telephone and radio dispatch duties).
• Ensure that only authorized persons are admitted to specific labs, offices, and classrooms after hours.
• Question suspicious persons in buildings as to their intent and purpose of being in the building.
• Complete occurrence reports on initial response to complaints and occurrences.
• Perform traffic enforcement duties as required.
• Prepare a duty report at the end of the shift.
• Secure the scene of occurrence which involves action by other agencies such as the Fire Department and Police Department.
• Assist training new security personnel.
• Perform crowd control duties as required.
• Assist Student Campus Patrol as needed.
• Other duties as assigned.
