Job summary

Paladin Security is seeking a Security Officer for Saint Mary's University in Halifax, Nova Scotia. The role involves patrolling campus facilities, responding to incidents, and supporting emergency operations to keep the community safe.

The position offers day and night shifts on a 4-on/4-off rotation, with opportunities for training, uniform provision, and career development within a respected security services organization.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Valid Nova Scotia Security License is required.
• Intermediate First Aid/CPR-C certification must be current.
• English fluency in spoken and written form.

Responsibilities

• Patrol campus buildings, facilities and exterior grounds.
• Respond to incidents and assist in emergencies.
• Conduct investigations and document incident reports.
• Monitor access and secure doors as needed.
• Enforce campus policies and assist with training new staff.
• Provide First Aid and monitor surveillance as required.

Job description

Site Description: Located in Mi'kma'ki, Saint Mary's University (SMU) is a public institution known for its multicultural campus and strong academic reputation.

Position: Security Officer

Site: SMU

Hours: 4-day on 4-day off (4 days-4 off-4 nights)- 0800-2000Hrs, 2000-0800Hrs

Key Responsibilities:

• Patrol the building, facilities and exterior grounds
• Respond to incidents and play an active role in all emergency situations
• Conduct investigations re: thefts, break and enter, suspicious persons, accidents, vandalism, etc and complete incident reports, occurrence logs or appropriate documentation
• Complete door locks/unlocks as required; monitor for unsecure doors
• Enforce applicable Smoke-Free Campus and Tobacco Use Policy and document all non-compliance.
• Provide assistance, as necessary, to University community members'
• Assist in orientation and training of new security personnel, as required.
• Provide First Aid response.
• Monitor surveillance cameras, as required.
• Other related duties and assignments, as delegated by the University Security Manager.
• Parking Duties may be required.

Prerequisites:

• Ability to obtain Security License for the province of Nova Scotia
• Must currently hold a valid Intermediate First Aid & CPR - Level C (from a CSA-approved vendor)
• English (oral and written) fluency is a must
• Previous experience in security, law enforcement, or a related field preferred.
• Must be able to provide certifications in Use of Force (UOF) and Management of Aggressive Behavior (MOAB)
• Applicants lacking these certifications can opt into Paladin's UoF/MOAB training program prior to their onboarding training to ensure they meet the requirements of the position
• Please be aware: The UoF/MOAB training is not paid as it is a pre-requisite; however, Paladin will cover all of the costs of the training with a 6-month commitment to the position/availability
