As an integral part of the health care team, Security assists in the provision of a safe environment for our patients, staff, and visitors within the property of St. Joseph's Health Care London. This is accomplished via crisis intervention, preventative patrols, alarm monitoring, emergency response, investigations, and report writing. All events are documented through clear and concise electronic report writing, adhering strictly to privacy legislation and ensuring compliance. The security guard role delivers a consistent and outstanding level of customer service to patients, staff, and visitors by actively seeking out opportunities to provide assistance and support. Security reminds all on the property of St. Joseph's of the importance of compliance with corporate policies and assists clinical teams with potentially aggressive patients to reduce risk and harm to patients, self, and others. This position reflects and practices a workstyle aligned with the mission, vision, and values of St. Joseph's, striving to ensure legislative and policy compliance, and maintaining a working knowledge of departmental standard operating procedures.

Essential Qualifications

• Maintain an active and valid Security Guard license with the Ontario Ministry of Community Safety and Correctional Services
• Post-Secondary Diploma from a recognized educational facility in law and security, law enforcement, or protection, security and investigation (considering applicants with a combination of experience and education)
• Previous security experience
• Maintain active and valid First Aid and CPR certification
• Secondary (High) School Diploma
• Knowledge of a Safety Culture in a Healthcare Setting in compliance with OHSA
• Focus on customer service and public interaction
• Problem solving and decision-making skills in emergent and critical situations
• Ability to recognize and respond quickly to significant safety risks
• Accurate, detail-oriented report writing skills
• Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Negotiation skills in stressful situations
• Training in crisis de-escalation

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in healthcare and mental health settings
• Knowledge of the Ontario Fire Code
• Crisis intervention training
• Previous Use of Force Training
• Proficiency in French (an asset)

Teaching and Research

• As part of St. Joseph's Health Care London, affiliated with Western University and Fanshawe College, employees are expected to engage in role-related teaching and research activities alongside clinical duties.

Immunization Requirements

• Provide vaccination records or proof of immunity against measles, mumps, rubella, varicella, Hepatitis B, COVID-19, and influenza.
• Provide documentation of Tuberculosis skin testing.
