Job summary

Paladin Security is seeking a Security Guard for St. Joseph's Hospital in Thunder Bay, Ontario.

The role focuses on patrolling hospital grounds, monitoring surveillance, controlling access, and responding to emergencies to ensure a safe environment for patients, staff, and visitors. Requirements include Ontario Security License, First Aid & CPR Level C, a valid G class license with a clean abstract, and strong English communication.

Qualifications

• Valid Ontario Security License is required.
• First Aid & CPR Level C is required.
• Immunization records for MMR, Varicella and TB testing recommended.
• Valid G class Driver License with three years of clean driving record.
• Fluent in English (oral and written).
• Previous security, law enforcement, or related field experience preferred.
• Certifications in Use of Force (UOF) and MOAB are required or may be obtained via Paladin training.

Responsibilities

• Patrol hospital grounds to ensure safety and security of the site.
• Monitor surveillance systems and report suspicious activity.
• Control access to restricted areas and verify authorised personnel.
• Respond to emergencies and assist staff during crises and evacuations.
• Provide customer service to visitors, patients, and staff; give directions.

Site Description:

St. Joseph’s Hospital, Thunder Bay is a specialized rehabilitative care hospital within St. Joseph’s Care Group, providing rehabilitation, mental health, addictions, and complex continuing-care services. The site supports patients across Northwestern Ontario in a safe, professional, and people-centred healthcare environment

Key responsibilities:

• Patrol Hospital Grounds: Conduct regular rounds of hospital premises, including parking areas, hallways, patient rooms, entrances, and exits, to ensure the safety and security of the site.
• Monitor Surveillance Systems: Operate security cameras and alarm systems, ensuring any suspicious activity is reported immediately to the appropriate authorities.
• Access Control: Monitor and control entry points to the hospital, ensuring that only authorized individuals are allowed access to restricted areas.
• Respond to Emergencies: Act quickly in emergency situations, such as medical emergencies, fire alarms, or security threats. Assist hospital staff as needed during crises and evacuations.
• Provide Customer Service: Greet and assist visitors, patients, and hospital staff. Provide directions and ensure that guests adhere to hospital policies and procedures.
• Conflict Resolution: De-escalate tense situations, resolve conflicts, and ensure that all interactions are handled calmly and professionally.
• Report Writing: Document daily activities, incidents, or accidents accurately. Complete reports on incidents, breaches, and security concerns.
• Collaboration with Hospital Staff: Work closely with hospital staff and local law enforcement to provide a coordinated security effort and ensure the safety of all parties involved.
• Enforce Hospital Policies: Ensure that hospital policies, including visitor and patient protocols, are followed. Address any violations in a manner that upholds hospital safety standards

Prerequisites:

• Valid Security License for the province of Ontario
• Valid First Aid & CPR - Level C (from a WSIB-approved vendor)
• Immunization records for Mumps, Measles, Rubella, Varicella and two step TB skin test (Should be already completed)
• Valid G class Driver License with last 3 years of Clean Abstract.
• English (oral and written) fluency is a must
• Previous experience in security, law enforcement, or a related field preferred.
• Must be able to provide certifications in Use of Force (UOF) and Management of Aggressive Behavior (MOAB)
• Applicants lacking these certifications can opt into Paladin's UoF/MOAB training program prior to their onboarding training to ensure they meet the requirements of the position
• Authorized to legally work in Canada
