Job summary

Paladin Security is seeking an On-Call/Casual Security Guard in Thunder Bay. This as-needed position has no guaranteed hours, with averaging overtime after 88 hours. Candidates must be flexible for overnight shifts and short-notice pickups while supporting hospital safety and patient protection.

You will patrol, monitor cameras, control access, respond to emergencies, and maintain professional conduct with staff and visitors. Training is provided for certifications and career progression.

Qualifications

• Valid English language skills are required for daily communication.
• Ontario security license and First Aid/CPR certifications are mandatory.
• Experience in security or related fields is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Patrol hospital grounds to ensure safety and security.
• Monitor surveillance systems and report suspicious activity.
• Control access at entry points to restricted areas.
• Respond quickly to emergencies and assist staff during crises.
• Provide courteous customer service to visitors and staff.
• De-escalate conflicts and document incidents accurately.

Averaging Agreement: Overtime is Averaging Agreement (AA) after 88 hours

Note: This position is "as needed". We do not guarantee minimum hours while employed as a casual security guard. Candidates must be flexible in their overnight availability and be able to pick up shifts short notice.

Key responsibilities:

• Patrol Hospital Grounds: Conduct regular rounds of hospital premises, including parking areas, hallways, patient rooms, entrances, and exits, to ensure the safety and security of the site.
• Monitor Surveillance Systems: Operate security cameras and alarm systems, ensuring any suspicious activity is reported immediately to the appropriate authorities.
• Access Control: Monitor and control entry points to the hospital, ensuring that only authorized individuals are allowed access to restricted areas.
• Respond to Emergencies: Act quickly in emergency situations, such as medical emergencies, fire alarms, or security threats. Assist hospital staff as needed during crises and evacuations.
• Provide Customer Service: Greet and assist visitors, patients, and hospital staff. Provide directions and ensure that guests adhere to hospital policies and procedures.
• Conflict Resolution: De-escalate tense situations, resolve conflicts, and ensure that all interactions are handled calmly and professionally.
• Report Writing: Document daily activities, incidents, or accidents accurately. Complete reports on incidents, breaches, and security concerns.
• Collaboration with Hospital Staff: Work closely with hospital staff and local law enforcement to provide a coordinated security effort and ensure the safety of all parties involved.
• Enforce Hospital Policies: Ensure that hospital policies, including visitor and patient protocols, are followed. Address any violations in a manner that upholds hospital safety standards

Prerequisites:

• Valid Security License for the province of Ontario
• Valid First Aid & CPR - Level C (from a WSIB-approved vendor)
• Immunization records for Mumps, Measles, Rubella, Varicella and two step TB skin test (Should be already completed)
• Valid G class Driver License with last 3 years of Clean Abstract.
• English (oral and written) fluency is a must
• Previous experience in security, law enforcement, or a related field preferred.
• Must be able to provide certifications in Use of Force (UOF) and Management of Aggressive Behavior (MOAB)
• Applicants lacking these certifications can opt into Paladin's UoF/MOAB training program prior to their onboarding training to ensure they meet the requirements of the position
• Please note: The UoF/MOAB Certification is Unpaid as it is a pre-requisite; however, Paladin will cover all of the costs of the training with a 6-month commitment to the position/availability.
• Authorized to legally work in Canada
