Job summary

Commissionaires Great Lakes in Aurora, Ontario, is seeking a dependable Commissionaire to join our frontline security team at a local site. You will monitor entrances, sign-in visitors, patrol the building, and respond to emergencies with professionalism and discretion.

Ideal candidates hold an Ontario Security Guard Licence, a valid First Aid/CPR certificate, and be able to stand, walk and patrol for long periods. We offer a supportive work environment and competitive pay.

Qualifications

• Ontario Secondary School Diploma is required.
• Ontario Security Guard Licence is a must.
• Valid First Aid and CPR certificate is required.
• York Regional Police Security Clearance Form must be completed.
• Ability to stand/sit/walk for long periods is required.
• Ability to complete frequent patrols is required.

Responsibilities

• Monitoring cameras
• Signing in and badge issuance for visitors and contractors
• Denying access to unauthorized persons
• Monitoring fire and security panels
• Reporting deficiencies to the Contract Manager or on-site staff
• Completing daily shift status reports
• Carrying a YRP-issued communication device during shifts
• Monitoring deliveries at the security gate
• Raising and lowering flags as requested
• Salting front steps to prevent slips and falls
• Assisting the public and directing to appropriate contacts
• Assisting YRP staff with other duties
• In fire alarms, locating alarm, contacting Fire Department, and reporting to Fire Marshall
• Escorting Fire Department as needed
• Escort to the Fire Department for alarm investigations
• Training on fire panel reset procedures
• Issuing visitor/contractor badges at reception
• Ensuring badges are visible at all times
• Contacting the requesting Bureau/Unit to escort contractors

INTRODUCTION:

Commissionaires Great Lakes (CGL) is a private, not-for-profit organization founded in 1925 on a mandate that prioritizes providing meaningful employment for veterans and others committed to the well being of Canadians primarily in security guard and related services. Spanning Central and Southwestern Ontario, our services are customized to respond to the dynamic and evolving security needs of both private and public sector clients. These include uniformed guard, mobile response and support services, by-law enforcement and identification services.

We are currently seeking a Commissionaire to join our growing team. This posting is for an existing vacancy.

WHAT OUR EXCEPTIONAL COMMISSIONAIRES ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR:

• Monitoring cameras
• Ensuring all visitors and contractors sign in and out and issuing badges that visitors and contractors must wear visibly while in the building
• Denying access to unauthorized persons
• Monitoring fire and security panel
• Reporting deficiencies of unsecured doors or unsafe building conditions to the Contract Manager or on-site YRP staff
• Completing a daily status report detailing the pertinent details of the completed shift and any information to be passed on to the next shift and to the Contract Manager
• Carrying a YRP-issued communication device at all times during the shift at HQ
• Monitoring deliveries at the security gate and contacting the designated YRP member for pickup of deliveries
• Raising and lowering flags as requested by the Contract Manager
• Occasionally salting front steps to prevent slips and falls
• Assisting members of the public with any questions and directing them to the appropriate individual/group
• Assisting YRP staff with other duties, as assigned
• In the event of a fire alarm, Security Personnel shall identify the location of the alarm on the fire panel, contact YRP facilities staff via YRP-issued radio, rendezvous with the firefighters as they arrive at the front entrance of the building and report to the Fire Marshall for further instructions
• If requested by the Fire Department, Security Personnel shall “escort” the Fire Department to investigate alarms
• Security Personnel will be trained by the Contract Manager on the fire panel reset procedure and will perform such procedure when directed by Fire Department
• When visitors or contractors check in at the reception desk, they will be issued with visitor or contractor badges respectively by Security Personnel
• Security Personnel will advise these registered visitors and contractors that these badges must be visibly displayed at all times while in the building
• Additionally, the Security Personnel must contact the requesting Bureau/Unit to escort the contractor while they are in the building
