Job summary

Star Building Materials, a division of Qualico, is hiring a Saw Operator - Lumber at our Rocky View County, AB location. You will cut lumber accurately according to order specs using various saws, while maintaining safety practices and following the company Safety Program.

You’ll review instructions, store and organize lumber, coordinate with forklift operators, and ensure proper setup and quality of cuts. Strong reading/writing and basic math, plus prior saw experience, are preferred.

Qualifications

• Completion of middle school; reading, writing and basic math skills.
• Minimum 6 months of experience operating table saw, shop saw and radial arm saw.
• Satisfactory verification of criminal record check.
• Physically able to kneel, crouch, lift and move up to 50 lbs.

Responsibilities

• Review work instructions and determine lumber requirements for the job.
• Inspect and store lumber; replenish and organize raw materials at the station.
• Coordinate lumber placement with forklift operator when needed.
• Ensure lumber is sawn accurately to specified dimensions/angles per orders.
• Examine work orders to determine procedures and proper equipment setup.
• Promote a safe work environment and follow Star Building Materials safety rules.

Job Overview

Reporting to theYard Manager, as theSaw Operator - Lumberyou areresponsible for cutting lumber accurately according to order specifications using a variety of saws. You work in a safe manner, and adhere to Qualico’s Safety Program.

Your day-to-day responsibilities will include:

• Reviewing work instructions and determining the accurate lumber required for the job.
• Inspecting quality and storing lumber in designated areas. Replenishing and organizing raw materials at the station.
• Coordinating lumber placements with the forklift operator when necessary.
• Ensuring lumber is sawed accurately according to specified dimensions and angles.
• Examining work orders to determine appropriate procedures and proper setup of equipment.
• Promoting a safe work environment, adhering to Qualico’s Safety Program and relevant safety regulations. Report safety violations when necessary.

Preferred Qualifications

• Previous experience using a variety of tools such as nail guns, saws and banding machines is definitely an asset.
• Working in a production plant with lumber is and asset.

Working Conditions

You primarily work on site during regular business hours. Work has exposure to noise from equipment/machinery and occupational hazards as well as dealing with inclement weather and dust. Overtime may occasionally be required.
