Job description

The Sales Engineer position shall have the responsibility and accountability for sales of High-efficiency Welded and Plate & Frame Heat Exchangers to direct-buying Top-Tier and Mid-Market accounts, with a particular focus on energy efficiency and upgrading/value-based sales. Sales of Compact Welded and Plate & Frame Heat Exchangers to direct-buying Top-Tier and Mid-Market accounts, with a focus on energy efficiency and value-based sales. Targeted industry segments include end-users and EPC (Engineering, Procurement & Construction) companies in Chemical Production, Mineral Processing, Pulp & Paper, and potentially Oil & Gas industries.

This position reports to Alfa Laval's Canadian Corporate headquarters in Scarborough, Ontario. The successful candidate can be based in Scarborough, Calgary, or the Montreal/Quebec area.

Duties and Responsibilities include:

  1. Prospect for and manage leads from the market and potential customers to identify new business opportunities, converting leads into real opportunities to ensure a sustainable and growing business.
  2. Engage actively with customers both online and in person to build strong relationships as a trusted partner and provide excellent customer experience.
  3. Analyze market insights and customer buying behavior to develop sales plans aligned with business division strategies and targets, collaborating closely with experienced sales team leaders.
  4. Develop value-based quotes tailored to customer needs, highlighting unique selling points and benefits.
  5. Utilize the company's CRM and other tools consistently to support the sales process, decision-making, and follow-up on opportunities.
  6. Support or back up other members of the Energy Process HX team as needed.

Education, Experience, Skills, and Attributes:

Education: Bachelor's degree in Applied Science/Engineering or Technologist diploma, preferably in Mechanical, Chemical, or Petroleum disciplines, though not mandatory.

Experience: 3-10 years of post-education sales or sales engineering experience in targeted industry segments.

Skills and Attributes:

  • Self-motivated, proactive in initiating sales plans for prospects and customers.
  • Possess a “hunter” mentality, capable of prospecting, identifying leads, and converting them into tangible business opportunities.
  • Insight into common unit operations and customer values within targeted segments.
  • Ability to create and execute a business and strategy plan to drive success in assigned areas.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Fluent or professional-level ability to communicate in French is highly valued.
  • Strong relationship-building skills.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively within local teams and globally.
  • Knowledge of heat transfer products and applications relevant to targeted segments.
