Job description

The Sales Engineer position shall have the responsibility and accountability for sales of High-efficiency Welded and Plate & Frame Heat Exchangers to direct-buying Top-Tier and Mid-Market accounts, with a particular focus on energy efficiency and upgrading / value-based sales. Sales of Compact Welded and Plate & Frame Heat Exchangers to direct-buying Top-Tier and Mid-Market accounts, with a particular focus on energy efficiency and upgrading / value-based sales. Targeted industry segments include end-users and EPC (Engineering, Procurement & Construction) companies in Chemical Production, Mineral Processing, Pulp & Paper, and potentially Oil & Gas industries.

This position will report to Alfa Laval's Canadian Corporate headquarters in Scarborough, Ontario. The successful candidate can be based in Scarborough, Calgary, or Montreal / Quebec area.

Duties and Responsibilities will Include :

  • Prospect for and manage leads from the market and potential customers to identify new customers and business opportunities as the local presence in the assigned industry areas, and convert leads into real business opportunities to ensure a sustainable and growing business.
  • Be active in the market and interact frequently with customers, online and in person, to build strong relationships as a trusted partner and provide an excellent customer experience.
  • Analyze and understand market insights and customer buying behavior, and make sales plans according to the business division strategy and targets, working closely with experienced sales team leaders.
  • Develop value-based quotes reflecting customer needs, emphasizing the unique selling points and benefits to the customer.
  • Use the company's CRM and other tools consistently and effectively to support the sales process, make decisions, and follow up on sales opportunities.
  • Assist other members of the Energy Process HX team in a supporting or backup role as needed.

Education, Experience, Skills and Attributes :

  • Education : Bachelor's degree in Applied Science / Engineering or Engineering Technologist diploma. Preference (though not mandatory) for Mechanical, Chemical, or Petroleum disciplines/competencies.
  • Experience : 3-10 years of post-education sales / sales engineering experience in targeted industry segments.
  • Skills and Attributes :
  • Self-starter with the ability to initiate sales plans for prospects and customers.
  • Hunter mentality with the ability to prospect and identify leads, and convert these into tangible business opportunities.
  • Insight into common unit operations and customer values in the targeted segments.
  • Ability to create and follow through on a Business and Strategy Plan to drive success in the assigned business area.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to communicate in French (oral and written) at a fluent or professional level is highly valued.
  • Ability to build relationships.
  • Ability to collaborate within your local work team and as part of a global organization.
  • Knowledge of heat transfer products and applications in the targeted segments.
