Job summary

Interpro Pipe & Steel Inc. seeks a Safety Supervisor to lead frontline safety across melt shop, tubular production, finishing and maintenance. You will coach, observe, audit, and ensure regulatory compliance while driving a proactive safety culture.

Qualifications

  • Grade 12 diploma or equivalent.
  • Occupational health and safety certification preferred (CRST/CRSP or related).
  • 3–5 years safety supervisory experience in manufacturing/industrial settings.

Responsibilities

  • Lead frontline safety performance across mill operations (melt shop, tubular production, finishing, maintenance, coating, contractor activities).
  • Provide coaching, conduct work observations, verify safe practices, ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Identify unsafe conditions, intervene, and support incident investigations and corrective actions.

Job Description and Responsibilities
  • The Safety Supervisor is responsible for leading frontline safety performance across all mill operations, including melt shop, tubular production, finishing, maintenance, coating and contractor activities.
  • This role provides peer‑to‑peer coaching, conducts structured work observations, verifies safe work practices, and ensures compliance with all regulatory, corporate, and site‑specific safety requirements.
  • The supervisor is a visible, engaged presence on the floor, driving a proactive safety culture through coaching, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Provide daily peer‑to‑peer coaching to employees, emphasizing hazard recognition, safe decision‑making, and adherence to critical safe behaviors
  • Maintaining high visibility on the floor and modelling correct behaviours at all times
  • Lead by example through consistent field presence, professional conduct, and reinforcement of mill safety values
  • Participate as needed in toolbox talks and targeted safety conversations based on emerging risks or recent incidents
  • Conduct routine and structured work observations across all operational areas, documenting findings and ensuring timely corrective actions
  • Verify proper use of PPE, machine guarding, housekeeping standards, and safe operating practices
  • Identify unsafe conditions or behaviors and intervene immediately to prevent injury or equipment damage
  • Review and audit operating procedures, safe work instructions, and job hazard analyses to ensure accuracy, clarity, and alignment with current practices
  • Support frontline leaders in updating procedures when process changes, new equipment, or incident learnings occur
  • Conduct lockout/tagout (LOTO) field reviews, ensuring energy isolation steps are followed precisely and documentation is complete
  • Oversee day‑shift contractor activities, ensuring all contractors meet site safety requirements before starting work
  • Conduct contractor onboarding, orientation verification, and daily work‑permit reviews
  • Monitor contractor work areas for compliance with LOTO, confined space, hot work, and other high‑risk controls
  • Participate in incident investigations, root‑cause analysis, and development of corrective actions
  • Support reporting of near misses, hazards, and safety concerns through coaching and follow‑up
  • Assist in emergency response drills and ensure readiness of equipment and personnel
  • Complete daily safety logs, observation reports, and LOTO verification records
  • Track corrective actions and ensure closure within required timelines
  • Provide shift‑level safety updates to the Safety Manager and Operations leadership
  • Deliver refresher training on critical safety topics such as LOTO, fall protection, mobile equipment, and hazard communication
  • Mentor new employees and supervisors on site safety expectations and procedures
  • Support annual safety training plans and competency assessments
Requirements
  • Grade 12 Diploma or equivalent
  • Occupational Health and Safety Practitioners Certificate, CRST, CRSP or a related designation (preferred)
  • At least 3-5 years of experience in a safety management or supervisory role, ideally in a manufacturing, industrial, or construction setting
  • Experience in Unionized environment considered an asset
  • In‑depth knowledge of Provincial regulations and safety management systems
  • Strong communication, leadership, and organizational skills
  • Ability to assess risks and implement effective control measures
  • Proficient with safety software, reporting tools and Microsoft applications
  • Ability to work rotating day/night shifts, including extended workdays, weekends, and statutory holidays
