Job description

Procor Limited manages Canada’s largest private tank car lease fleet and operates an extensive repair network across the country. Our fleet includes over 30,500 specialized tank and freight cars, with 27 repair locations servicing markets such as petroleum, petrochemicals, plastics, chemicals, fertilizers, and food.

This position is responsible for establishing and implementing Health & Safety policies, facilitating training, and ensuring safety compliance to support safe and efficient railcar repairs at the Edmonton facility. It involves overseeing safety training programs, promoting safety culture, and reporting on safety metrics.

Based in Edmonton, reporting directly to the Plant Manager with a dotted line to the Director, HSE, this role focuses on safety policy adherence, employee training, and safety program management. Key objectives include safety training, enforcement, TRIR achievement, and supervision.

Principal Duties:
  1. Initiate, promote, implement, and maintain health and safety initiatives.
  2. Develop and deliver safety orientation for new employees to ensure understanding of risks and safe practices.
  3. Conduct monthly safety audits with the Safety Committee and follow up on corrective actions.
  4. Provide statistical reports on incidents, injuries, absenteeism, and disability.
  5. Communicate safety information to management and staff.
  6. Monitor and recommend corrective actions.
  7. Maintain safety bulletin boards and ensure legislative compliance (e.g., audiometric testing, air quality, forklift, WHMIS, First Aid, JHSC).
  8. Update and communicate health and safety policies and procedures.
  9. Perform hazard analyses and ensure safe work procedures are current.
  10. Conduct ergonomic workplace assessments.
  11. Investigate accidents thoroughly, communicate findings, and implement corrective measures.
  12. Manage occupational injuries and liaise with WCB and insurance providers.
  13. Oversee return-to-work programs and manage disability cases to ensure employee safety and benefits entitlement.
  14. Promote positive employee relations through communication, coaching, and counseling.
  15. Maintain a positive, results-oriented attitude and support company policies.
  16. Perform other related duties as assigned.

Preferred candidates will have solid experience with safety and environmental legislation and training, with a CRSP designation and at least three years of relevant experience being highly desirable.

This challenging role requires a candidate with industry knowledge, leadership confidence, and strong management, coaching, and organizational skills.
