Job summary

Heritage Co-op is seeking a Safety & Asset Protection Coordinator to oversee safety programs, asset protection, fleet compliance, insurance and risk management across the organization. The role reports to the Safety & Asset Protection Advisor and supports a safe, compliant workplace for employees, customers, contractors, and visitors.

Key duties include coordinating training, incident reporting, audits, and contractor onboarding while maintaining confidential records.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma required.
  • Post-secondary education in OH&S, Business Admin, Risk Mgmt, HR, Criminal Justice or related field preferred.
  • Safety certifications such as CSO/NCSO/COR are assets.

Safety & Asset Protection Coordinator (Full-Time)

For our Administration Office located in Minnedosa, MB

The Safety & Asset Protection Coordinator plays a key role in supporting Heritage Co-op's commitment to providing a safe, secure, and compliant workplace for employees, customers, contractors and visitors. Reporting to the Safety & Asset Protection Advisor, this position is responsible for coordinating the administration, implementation and monitoring of occupational health and safety, asset protection, fleet compliance, insurance and risk management programmes across the organisation.

This position works closely with operational leaders, employees, contractors and external partners to promote safe work practices, support compliance with legislative requirements, reduce organisational risk and contribute to a positive safety culture throughout Heritage Co-op.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate and administer workplace safety programs, policies, procedures, and initiatives while supporting ongoing occupational health and safety compliance throughout the organisation.
  • Support Joint Safety and Health Committee activities, maintain safety training records, coordinate First Aid programmes and assist with return-to-work and workplace accommodation processes.
  • Monitor compliance with occupational health and safety legislation, WHMIS requirements, internal policies and regulatory standards; prepare reports, documentation and compliance summaries as required.
  • Conduct workplace inspections, safety audits and compliance reviews; identify hazards and emerging risks, track corrective actions and support asset protection and loss prevention initiatives.
  • Coordinate fleet management and compliance programmes, including driver qualifications, vehicle registrations, maintenance records, inspections, insurance documentation and fleet reporting requirements.
  • Support incident reporting, investigations, root cause analysis, corrective action development and risk management activities while maintaining accurate and confidential records.
  • Coordinate contractor onboarding and compliance verification processes; maintain contractor documentation and support operational leaders in meeting regulatory and organisational compliance requirements.
  • Provide day-to-day guidance and support to employees and leaders regarding safety, asset protection, risk management and compliance best practices.

Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma required.
  • Post-secondary education in Occupational Health and Safety, Business Administration, Risk Management, Human Resources, Criminal Justice or a related field is preferred.
  • Health and Safety certification such as CSO, NCSO, COR-related training or equivalent is considered an asset.
  • One (1) to three (3) years of experience in an administrative, safety, risk management, insurance, compliance, asset protection or related role.
  • Experience coordinating training programmes, inspections, investigations, audits or regulatory compliance activities is considered an asset.
  • Experience maintaining confidential records and working in compliance-driven environments.
  • Experience within retail, food, petroleum, agriculture, warehouse or home centre operations is considered an asset.
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, Outlook, Word and PowerPoint.
  • Valid driver's licence and ability to travel occasionally between Heritage Co-op locations.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain applicable safety certifications and training as required.
  • Safety and Risk Awareness: Demonstrates a commitment to workplace safety, compliance and risk reduction through proactive identification and mitigation of hazards.
  • Planning and Organisation: Effectively manages multiple priorities, deadlines, inspections, training requirements and compliance activities while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Communication Skills: Communicates clearly and professionally with employees, leaders, contractors, regulators, insurance providers and external partners.
  • Analytical and Problem-Solving Skills: Identifies issues, analyzes information, investigates root causes and recommends practical solutions to improve safety and operational effectiveness.
  • Initiative and Accountability: Takes ownership of responsibilities, works independently, follows through on commitments and demonstrates sound judgement.
  • Attention to Detail: Maintains accurate records, databases, reports and compliance documentation while ensuring information remains complete and current.
  • Confidentiality and Professionalism: Handles sensitive employee, insurance, incident and operational information with discretion and integrity.
  • Customer Service Orientation: Provides responsive support to internal customers while helping create a safe and positive workplace environment.

Working Conditions:

  • Primarily office-based with regular travel to retail, food, petroleum, agro, home centre, warehouse and administrative locations.
  • Frequent interaction with managers, employees, contractors, regulatory agencies, insurance providers and external service partners.
  • Participation in workplace inspections, investigations, audits, training activities and emergency response situations as required.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, compliance-focused work environment.
  • Some lifting walking standing and travel required while conducting site visits and inspections.
  • Occasional work outside standard business hours may be required to support investigations emergencies audits training or organisational initiatives.
