Job summary

Heritage Co-op in Brandon, MB is seeking a part-time Bakery Clerk to join our Bakery Department. You will assist customers, merchandise products, and help maintain a clean, safe, and well-organized store environment.

Reporting to the Bakery Manager, you will slice, package, price, and rotate bakery items, support inventory, and ensure high food-safety standards while delivering exceptional service to our customers.

Qualifications

• Grade 12 diploma preferred.
• Experience in retail, bakery, grocery or customer service is an asset.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Knowledge of food safety practices is considered an asset.
• WHMIS training is considered an asset.
• Commitment to ongoing learning and development.

Responsibilities

• Provide exceptional customer service by assisting customers with product selection and inquiries.
• Merchandise bakery products with proper pricing and presentation.
• Slice, package, wrap, label, and price bakery items ensuring quality and freshness.
• Receive, inspect, store, and rotate products using FIFO inventory practices.
• Monitor inventory levels, report shrink and spoilage, and assist with counts.
• Maintain department cleanliness and safety standards.
• Follow all food safety, WHMIS, safety policies, and procedures.
• Assist Bakery Manager with other duties as assigned.

What you?ll do:

Reporting to the Bakery Manager, the Bakery Clerk is responsible for providing exceptional customer service while maintaining a safe, efficient, and well-organized bakery department. This role assists with merchandising, product preparation, inventory control, food safety, and housekeeping standards to ensure an outstanding shopping experience for our customers.

Key Job Responsibilities include:

• Provide exceptional customer service by assisting customers with product selection, special orders, bakery product information, and inquiries while contributing to a positive team environment.
• Merchandise bakery products by stocking shelves and displays, ensuring products are properly priced, signed, faced, and presented according to company standards.
• Slice, package, wrap, label, and price bakery products while maintaining product quality, freshness, and food safety standards.
• Receive, inspect, store, and rotate products following first-in, first-out (FIFO) inventory practices.
• Monitor inventory levels, report shrink and spoilage, and assist with inventory counts and departmental administration as required.
• Maintain department cleanliness, including sales floor, work areas, storage areas, and equipment.
• Follow all food safety, WHMIS, occupational health and safety, asset protection, and company policies and procedures.
• Support the Bakery Manager with other duties as assigned to ensure efficient department operations.

Education, Experience, and Other Requirements:

• Grade 12 diploma/GED preferred.
• Previous retail, bakery, grocery, or customer service experience is considered an asset.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Knowledge of food safety practices is considered an asset.
• WHMIS training is considered an asset.

Working Conditions:

• Retail bakery environment requiring prolonged standing, walking, bending, lifting, and repetitive movements.
• Regular handling of bakery products and supplies.
• May be required to lift and carry items up to 20 kg.
