Job summary

School District 71 (Comox Valley) is seeking an experienced Electrician for a 40-hour week, Monday to Friday. The position is temporary through August 31, 2027, with a pay rate of CAD $36.77 per hour plus 16.3% in lieu of benefits.

The successful candidate will have BC Electrical Qualification, Grade 12, and senior-level trades experience. Responsibilities include planning, estimating and scheduling trades work, reading blueprints, operating test equipment, and maintaining school facilities

We invite applications for the position of:
  • Electrician, 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday. The current rate of pay is $36.77 per hour plus 16.3% in lieu of benefits.
  • Please note this temporary position will end August 31, 2027 or upon return of the incumbent.
Qualifications:

Grade 12 education supplemented by completion of the British Columbia Technical Qualification in electrical; minimum of three years current experience as a skilled tradesperson at the senior level, with a demonstrated high level of technical competency; current experience in planning, estimating and scheduling of trades work; competent in the use of all hand and power tools required for the trade; ability to operate electrical and electronic test equipment; ability to lay out, assign, and check the work of assistants performing skilled and semi-skilled tasks; ability to read blueprints; ability to estimate projects and select appropriate materials; ability to perform a variety of skilled tasks in the construction, repair and maintenance of school physical plants and equipment; valid Class 5 B.C. driver's license and license appropriate to the type of equipment/vehicle being operated; meets the physical requirements of the position; ability to work independently and as a member of a team; excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

Duties/Responsibilities:

Duties are performed under the supervisions of the Manager of Operations or designate; normally receives general instructions only, which requires the exercise of sound judgement as to the method of performing the work; work on high voltage distribution systems, medium to high voltage lighting, HVAC machines, fire and intruder alarm systems, industrial education equipment, and other related electrical systems common to educational institutions; may be required to monitor DDC systems and decipher critical issues, adjust DDC schedules, complete minor DDC programming changes, troubleshoot DDC network issues and have knowledge of enteliWEB building management software; assists in all aspects of maintaining district facilities, and to this end is expected to maintain a good work relationship with other employees; assists as required in the cost estimating of various projects and selection of appropriate materials; may be required to provide leadership to other maintenance employees; follows proper work procedures, observes all regulations pertinent to the work, maintains a good working relationship with other employees, and cooperates in maintaining a healthy learning and working environment; performs other related duties as assigned by the Supervisor.
