Job summary

The City of Nanaimo is seeking a permanent full-time Roads Serviceperson I. Reporting to a Supervisor, the incumbent carries out construction and maintenance of roads, including road infrastructure: concrete sidewalks, brick pavers, boulevards, asphalt roadways, and pathways.

The incumbent performs the operation, maintenance, and servicing of a variety of mobile construction and maintenance equipment, and vehicles with related attachments. Please see the job description PDF for full details.

Qualifications

• Grade 12 and minimum 6 months experience in concrete construction and finishing, including curb, gutter, sidewalk, median, and road construction.
• Possession of a valid traffic control ticket is required.
• Candidates must hold and maintain a valid Class 3 BC Driver’s Licence with Air Endorsement.

Responsibilities

• Carry out construction and maintenance of roads and related infrastructure (concrete sidewalks, brick pavers, boulevards, asphalt roadways, pathways).
• Operate, maintain and service a variety of mobile construction and maintenance equipment and vehicles with attachments.

Requirements

Applicants must have grade 12 and a minimum of 6 months experience applying techniques of concrete construction and finishing, including concrete curb and gutter, sidewalk, median driveway, and road construction experience. Possession of a valid traffic control ticket is required. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. Candidates must hold and maintain a valid Class 3 BC Driver’s Licence with Air Endorsement.

Compensation and Benefits

This is a CUPE bargaining unit position based on a 40-hour work week, and subject to Article 1(d) - Probationary Period as set out in the Union Collective Agreement. The hourly wage is $39.58, increasing to $41.66 after 60 working days (Jan 2026 Rates).
