Job summary

City of Kamloops is seeking a permanent, full-time Equipment Operator V – Streets to lead and operate heavy equipment for road repair and maintenance across Kamloops. You will ensure safe practices and mentor junior operators in daily tasks and complex operations.

The role is unionized with CUPE Local 900, offering a comprehensive benefits package and a police information check for new hires. The position follows a 7:00–3:00 or 8:00–4:00 schedule with seasonal winter shifts and 40 hours per week.

Qualifications

• Completion of senior secondary school or its equivalent.
• Valid BC Driver's Licence - Class 1 with air brake endorsement (for operating a tandem with pup).
• Minimum of one year's previous experience driving a tandem axle vehicle in city traffic and confined spaces, including three months' experience operating a roller, loader, and backhoe for road construction.
• Minimum 500 hours of previous experience on a grader completing road maintenance.

• Ensure safe work practices and compliance with procedures.

We are seeking a permanent, full-time Equipment Operator V – Streets where you will take on a lead role in operating and maintaining a variety of heavy equipment to support road repair, and maintenance activities. This position is responsible for completing complex street operations, ensuring safe work practices, and providing guidance and direction to junior operators and crew members. The successful candidate must have the following qualifications:

1. Completion of senior secondary school or its equivalent.

Hourly Rate

$39.592

Hours & Days of Work

7:00 am - 3:00 pm (summer)

8:00 am - 4:00 pm (winter)

Winter Shifts (from approximately November to May each year):

• 12:00 am - 8:00 am
• 8:00 am - 4:00 pm
• 4:00 pm - 12:00 am

12-hour winter weekend standby shifts required.
