Job summary

Mind Games at Mayfair Mall in Victoria, BC is seeking an Assistant Store Manager. You will support the Store Manager in driving sales, coaching a dynamic team, and ensuring an outstanding customer experience.

You will lead by example in a fast-paced, playful environment, helping with scheduling, training, and daily operations while maintaining our welcoming store atmosphere.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree preferred in business or related field.
• 2+ years of management or supervisory experience in a specialty retail environment.
• Strong leadership and coaching abilities with ability to motivate a high-performing team.
• Excellent customer service and understanding of retail operations.

Responsibilities

In thisrole, you’ll assist the Store Manager in driving sales, coaching and supportingteam members, ensuring operational excellence, and creating an outstandingcustomer experience.

Duties And Responsibilities Include, But Are Not Limited To

• Support daily store operations by scheduling, assigning, and following up onemployee tasks.
• Assist with recruiting, selecting, orienting, and training team members tomaintain a strong and capable staff.
• Coach, mentor, and develop employees, providing feedback and guidance to helpthem reach their full potential.
• Support the Store Manager in addressing employee performance issues whenrequired.
• Assist in achieving financial objectives by monitoring expenditures,analyzing results and variances, and supporting corrective action whennecessary.
• Build strong customer relationships by understanding their needs, providingexceptional service, and maintaining a welcoming store environment.
• Support sales and marketing initiatives by reviewing promotions, displayplans, and operating and financial results to help maximize storeperformance.
• Support merchandising, inventory management, receiving shipments, and overallstore presentation.
• Assist with opening and closing procedures, cash handling, registerreconciliation, and POS operations.
• Support scheduling and day-to-day supervision of store employees.
• Help train and coach team members to maintain strong customer service andsales standards.
• Monitor store performance and support the achievement of sales targets andKPIs.
• Ensure the store is safe, clean, organized, and compliant with all companypolicies and procedures.
• Implement and monitor loss prevention and shrink‑control practices to protectcompany assets.
• Assist in resolving customer concerns and escalated service issues.
• Support the Store Manager with other operational responsibilities asrequired.

You are best suited for this role if you have the following qualifications andskills:

• Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration or a related field preferred.
• 2+ years of management or supervisory experience in a specialty retailenvironment.
• Strong leadership, coaching, and team development abilities, with the abilityto motivate and support a high-performing team.
• Strong customer service skills with a solid understanding of retailoperations and business management processes.
• Experience with opening and closing procedures, cash handling, and POSsystems.
• Experience with inventory management, receiving shipments, merchandising, andstock organization.
• Understanding of store sales targets and KPIs.
• Experience with scheduling and supporting store employees.
• Experience recruiting, hiring, training, coaching, and mentoring employees.
• Knowledge of loss prevention, shrink reduction, and expense‑controlpractices.
• Ability to effectively handle customer concerns and complaints.
• Highly organized with the ability to multitask and prioritize in a fast-pacedretail environment.
• Ability to perform effectively during high-volume periods, including weekendsand holiday seasons.
• Passion for board games, puzzles, toys, collectibles, and pop culture is anasset.
• Self‑motivated, energetic, and results‑driven.

Pay Rate
