Job Summary
PetSmart’s Process Leader (Retail Operations Manager) shares responsibility for driving operational excellence in our stores while upholding the company’s vision, mission, values, and strategy. This role is accountable for merchandising, inventory management, pet care operations, opening and/or closing the store, leading associates, financial outcomes, and maintaining a safe and organized environment.
Essential Responsibilities
Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
People Leadership:
- Participate in employment decisions such as recruiting, interviewing, and coaching.
- Facilitate the associate experience and support associate development, including training, onboarding, reviews, labor management, mentoring, and coaching for accountability.
- Address and administer associate complaints and grievances.
- Prioritize, delegate, and validate daily tasks for associates to meet business and pet parent needs.
- Lead and coach associates on operational processes to ensure pets in our care are safe and healthy.
- Coordinate staffing coverage for key store activities.
- Validate completion of operational messages and engagement videos.
- Communicate company information and priorities to ensure alignment.
- Recognize and celebrate associates to boost engagement.
Overall Store Experience:
- Oversee healthcare of store pets, including maintenance, feeding, watering, cleaning, and care for sick pets.
- Manage inventory processes, including accuracy, receiving, stocking, and merchandising.
- Evaluate operations for continuous improvement.
- Maintain vendor relationships and store standards.
- Oversee online order programs and respond to sales trends.
- Ensure store standards, safety, and compliance.
- Respond promptly to pet and customer concerns.
Expense Management:
- Identify growth opportunities and achieve sales and shrink targets.
- Analyze inventory reports for trends and opportunities.
- Manage expenses such as labor and supplies.
- Coordinate with Home Office for work orders and purchases.
Qualifications:
- 3+ years in retail leadership or customer-focused roles.
- Full-time availability, flexible schedule including evenings, weekends, holidays.
- Proficiency in computer applications.
- Strong communication skills.
- Ability to work under pressure and stay organized.
- Attention to detail in store presentation.
Supervisory Responsibility:
- Supervise up to 3 lead associates and 40 non-leader associates.
- Make employment decisions and support associate development.
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
- Stand, walk, climb ladders, handle objects, and reach.
- Lift up to 50 pounds frequently, more with team lifts.
- Work in environments with pet hair, noise, and possible exposure to moving parts and live animals.
