Job summary

Sunshine Restaurant and Bakeshop in Carmacks, Yukon is seeking a Restaurant Cook (NOC 63200). This full-time, permanent position offers 30 hours per week with an hourly wage of CAD 20.00–CAD 25.00, based at 35601 North Klondike Highway, Carmacks, Y0B 1C0, Canada.

You will prepare meals per standardized recipes, plan daily prep, maintain cleanliness and food safety, monitor quality and inventory, and work with kitchen and front-of-house staff to ensure timely, high‑quality service.

Qualifications

  • Secondary school completion or equivalent experience.
  • 1–2 years of experience as a cook in a restaurant, café, hotel, or similar establishment.
  • Food Safe Level 1 or equivalent Food Handler Certificate is an asset.
  • Language: English.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and cook meals per standardized recipes and quality standards.
  • Plan and organize daily food preparation activities to ensure timely service.
  • Prepare ingredients by washing, peeling, chopping, and portioning.
  • Inspect kitchen and food prep areas for cleanliness, safety, and sanitation.
  • Monitor quality, freshness, and storage to minimize waste.
  • Maintain inventory and notify management of shortages.
  • Operate and maintain kitchen equipment safely.
  • Clean and sanitize surfaces and equipment per health standards.
  • Ensure all food is prepared and presented to restaurant standards.
  • Monitor cooking times and temperatures for safe, consistent results.
  • Assist in receiving, inspecting, and storing deliveries.
  • Follow food handling and safety procedures.
  • Support daily kitchen operations during service.
  • Collaborate with kitchen and front-of-house staff for timely orders.
  • Help reduce waste through proper ingredient use and portions.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Prepare and cook complete meals or individual dishes in accordance with standardized recipes, customer specifications, and quality standards.
  • Plan and organize daily food preparation activities to ensure timely and efficient meal service.
  • Prepare ingredients by washing, peeling, chopping, measuring, and portioning food items prior to cooking.
  • Inspect kitchen and food preparation areas to ensure cleanliness, organization, and compliance with food safety and sanitation regulations.
  • Monitor the quality, freshness, and proper storage of food ingredients to minimize waste and maintain product quality.
  • Maintain inventory of food, supplies, and kitchen equipment, and notify management of stock shortages or replenishment requirements.
  • Operate and maintain kitchen equipment safely, ensuring all equipment is clean and in good working condition.
  • Clean and sanitize kitchen equipment, utensils, workstations, and food preparation areas in accordance with health and safety standards.
  • Ensure all food is prepared, cooked, and presented according to restaurant standards for taste, quality, and appearance.
  • Monitor cooking times and temperatures to ensure food is prepared safely and consistently.
  • Assist in receiving, inspecting, and storing food deliveries to ensure products meet quality standards and are stored appropriately.
  • Follow established food handling, sanitation, and occupational health and safety procedures to maintain a safe working environment.
  • Assist in managing daily kitchen operations by coordinating food preparation activities and ensuring efficient workflow during service periods.
  • Work collaboratively with kitchen staff and front‑of‑house personnel to ensure accurate and timely order preparation and customer satisfaction.
  • Assist in reducing food waste by properly utilizing ingredients and maintaining portion control.
  • Perform other related kitchen duties as assigned to support the efficient operation of the restaurant.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Education Level: Secondary school completion or equivalent experience
  • Work Experience: 1–2 years of experience as a cook in a restaurant, café, hotel, or similar establishment
  • Certifications: Food Safe Level 1 or equivalent Food Handler Certificate is an asset
  • Language Requirements: English
