Team & Job Overview

The Digital & Technology Solutions (DTS) group under the leadership of the Chief Information Officer was established in 2023 with the mission of empowering our customers and colleagues to take on the world, by seamlessly delivering secure and reliable digital experiences. Digital & Technology Solutions has set out to achieve the following objectives for EDC:

  • Define, execute, and sustain the integrated technology target state, target data model and technology operations required to enable EDC’s 2030 business transformation.
  • Establish and manage the rolling 3 Year Digital Roadmap that sequences the technology outcomes required to achieve the technology target state and facilitate its execution across all domains in the organization.
  • Keep pace with industry trends and emerging technologies, ensuring EDC has access to the digital technology tools it needs to stay relevant in the market and grow Canadian global trade.
  • Lead and ensure integrated digital, data, infrastructure, and cybersecurity implementations to create excellent customer, user, and employee experiences.

We have an opportunity for a results-focused individual with strong interpersonal, influencing, and strategic thinking skills to enable the transition of EDC business objectives & related requirements into industry standard, best practice enterprise aligned technology solutions. This role will report into the Chapter Lead (Director) of Architecture owners.

In addition to the ability to quickly understand business context, business applications and required business outcomes, the solution architect’s technical expertise is broad and covers the data, application and technology architecture domains with experience in many areas including: Cloud migration, enterprise information modeling and architecture, data quality management, metadata management, master data management, data integration, enterprise data warehouse, business intelligence, data visualization, operational reporting and ETL frameworks, Integration, API, Portals, Content Management, Web Content Management, ERPs, Workflow, Digital Design, Customer/User Experience, Security and Single Sign-On. architects will be a key stakeholder for the realization of EDC’s Digital enabled Business Strategies.

The Architecture Owner's role is to design solutions to realize given business outcomes in the context provided by the Enterprise Architecture team. In addition, this role provides support and oversight to ensure the solution is implemented. In order to do this the architect will require the ability to operate in and across multiple business & technology areas including Line of Business, Finance, Legal, ATIP, Procurement, Security, Infrastructure, Partners, Vendor and Delivery Teams. The role includes identifying gaps between current state technology architecture and what is required to execute on EDC Digital enabled Business Strategies and ensuring solutions are planned to fill these gaps.

The Architecture Owner may supervise and indirect staff on the breadth of solution architecture and strategic planning disciplines and may mentor business and technical teams in application architecture disciplines. The role functions in a fluid environment of changing business priorities, requirements and improvements to stay current with the technology.

Key Responsibilities

  • Interact with a variety of stakeholders to understand business needs
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams (Product owner, business line, developers, analysts, enterprise architect, etc.) and guide technology choices
  • Oversee the implementation and operationalization of end-to-end solutions
  • Diagnose problem situations and help solve complex problems
  • Promote the adoption of the EDC architecture and cybersecurity principles in solution design and implementation
  • Understand the impact of technology on business processes, applications and data in order to provide this information to various audiences executives levels, squads
  • Design the overall technological architecture of the product
  • Partners with the Tech Lead to guide the implementation of software engineering practices for higher code quality; Develops architectural standards, principles, practices, and architectural templates
  • Problem solves architecture questions with the team to ensure consistent and sound solutioning
  • Identifies and removes technical impediments by being hands on and engaging in coding to help the team to develop the products
  • Ensure technical considerations are communicated, and implementation conforms with design, long-term objectives, and enterprise architecture by coaching software engineers and by building reusable and scalable components
  • Work with stakeholders and team members to align the roadmap with strengths and opportunities within the technical stack
  • Support product and delivery teams to ensure designed solutions are developed and deployed to meet objectives
  • Constantly looking for better ways of solving technical problems and designing the solution, not afraid of challenging the status quo
  • Ensures consistency in architecture and engineering approaches between their team and others by frequently engaging the Enterprise Architect

Screening Criteria

  • Undergraduate Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or related field
  • Minimum 7 years of experience delivering IT solutions or as a Solution Architect
  • Thorough understanding of the concepts, technology, and solutions related to a modern ecosystem: domain architecture, microservices, APIs, streaming, Cloud technologies, real-time dataflows, orchestration, Cloud, DevOps
  • Strong communication skills with ability align organization on complex technical decisions
  • Experience in Agile Delivery, with specific Solution Architect experience
  • Excellent analytical skills, ability to resolve problems and make decisions
  • Deep technical knowledge; architecture and development patterns and practices; how to realize non-functional qualities in a design
  • Experience managing technical priorities within the backlog

Asset

  • Application of the Well Architectured Framework
  • Experience in DevSecOps practices
  • Bilingual in both official languages (English and French)
  • Architecture Owner 18: Salaries typically range from $94,664 to $126,218 annually, based on qualifications and experiences, plus a performance-based incentive

Location

  • Export Development Canada is a hybrid work environment.
  • This role may be performed from EDC’s headquarters in Ottawa, or from the Community Hub in Toronto, Mississauga, Vancouver, Halifax, Calgary, Montreal, Laval or Brossard.
