Principal Architect - Microsoft, UNIX, and Linux Systems - Remote - Canada

Foundever is seeking a senior-level Microsoft and UNIX Principal Architect with Linux and/or AIX experience to join our Global Systems and Data Technology Team. The candidate will provide expertise in Microsoft Server infrastructure, Linux-based hypervisors, and automation technologies, supporting engineering and support functions.

This role requires a service-oriented mindset, high ownership of assigned problems and requests, and a focus on resolving issues within SLAs. Effective communication with technology customers about request statuses is essential. The individual will research, architect, build new infrastructure, initiate changes in production systems, and escalate issues proactively.

This position offers an opportunity to expand knowledge and work with the latest technology. We value a positive attitude, initiative, eagerness to learn, and strong documentation skills.

Responsibilities
  • Owning, tracking, and resolving issues related to Microsoft, UNIX/Linux systems, and storage technologies.
  • Providing Tier 4 support for requests and incident resolution within SLAs.
  • Reviewing system monitoring, performance, and security reports daily to identify and resolve issues promptly.
  • Designing and architecting new Microsoft/Unix/Linux system technologies, including virtual platforms and automation.
  • Conducting technology reviews and proof of concept testing.
  • Developing and deploying automation solutions.
  • Performing systems integration testing, including open-source software and COTS.
  • Training and mentoring junior team members on new technologies.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Information Systems, Computer Science, or related field; equivalent experience considered.
  • Over 10 years of IT experience supporting Microsoft/Unix/Linux infrastructure.
  • Strong experience with Microsoft-Linux-Unix and automation technologies.
  • Experience with BigFix, WSUS, hypervisor platforms (KVM, Red Hat OpenShift, Oracle).
  • Knowledge of performance tuning, storage optimization, and troubleshooting tools.
  • Experience with backup, restore, and recovery processes.
  • Operational automation implementation experience.
  • Strong documentation skills (KBs, runbooks, topology).
  • Solution architecture and integration experience using open source and COTS technologies.
  • Ability to collaborate across disciplines and technical levels.
  • Preferred knowledge: IBM Power servers, VMware vSphere, supporting infrastructure, NetBackup, SAN management (Brocade), SAN switches, storage arrays.
  • Experience with storage systems and SANs.
  • Open-source automation tools experience (Puppet, Chef, Ansible) is a plus.

Salary Range

The annual base pay in Canada ranges from $90,000 to $103,000 CAD, depending on location, knowledge, education, skills, and experience.
