Job summary

Manitoba Hydro is seeking a Resource Options Planning Engineer (Civil/Mechanical/Electrical) in Winnipeg to help shape Manitoba's energy future. You will evaluate new generation options, develop cost estimates, and contribute to long-term resource planning and IRPs.

Qualifications

  • Graduate in Civil, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering with at least six years of related experience.
  • Professional member in good standing with Engineers Geoscientists Manitoba or willingness to attain it within a specified time.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Knowledge of hydropower, wind and solar is an asset.
  • Knowledge of generation planning, engineering, cost estimating, scheduling and construction principles.
  • Knowledge of operation of integrated systems including generation, transmission and HVDC operations.
  • Ability to coordinate and direct personnel inside and outside Manitoba Hydro.
  • Must possess initiative and sound judgment with timely decisions.
  • Experience with project management processes and tools to manage projects.

Responsibilities

  • Develop integrated planning studies for new supply options (e.g., combustion turbines, wind, solar, batteries, hydropower) from Stage 1 to Stage 4.
  • Develop and update concepts, cost estimates, schedules and in-service dates with department and consultants.
  • Develop design criteria for new supply options and ensure safe, cost-efficient solutions align with system needs.
  • Contribute to defining engineering design parameters for supply options.
  • Coordinate planning activity schedules and track deliverables to completion.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams and consultants on staged planning studies.
  • Prepare and update supply options input parameters annually for long-term planning.
  • Participate in research and monitoring activities to incorporate modern technologies.
  • Conduct engineering economic analysis, business case development and risk analysis.
  • Create reports and technical memoranda documenting planning results.
